My BMW E53 4.8is

Post by Jag530isport » Fri May 08, 2015 9:14 am

Hi guys

I didn't realise that this forum existed until a few days ago.  I've been posting on xoutpost.com and bmw5 so I thought I would post a few pictures of my Estriol Blue X5 4.8is.

I've had a few BMWs and currently have the X5, e39 m5 and a e46 330ci sport convertible.  My X5 was featured in BMW Car Magazine last October anyway enough to of me gassing on.  Onto the pictures

Jag530isport - Welcome to the site.

(For info of members I have been in PM exchange with this new member and can vouch he is a fellow BMW enthusiast and member on other recognised boards).

Oh and a pic or 2 of the E39 M5 would be good too ;)

Thanks for sharing  :)

All look smart.

Have always liked the E39 M5. The facelift like yours having just a few changes but changes that make a positive difference.

Last drove one supposedly remapped last year. Progressive and  retrievable when traction limits approached.

Despite there being a few dogs around, now is a good time to buy these whilst prices still not daft and a few still available that are decent or fairly easy to turn back to decent without needing a mortgage.

I suspect I would end up being even more of a paranoid  fault code scanner in ownership  though.

To be honest I've been into BMs for around 15yrs or so.  Always wanted a M car and this is the first one I have brought.  Went up to Edinburgh to get it.  It's had two previous owners to myself and has covered 82k, hence why I went for it.

They are seeming to go up in value for decent ones anyway but even the rough ones have started going up in value but I think thats just owners jumping on the band wagon, just makes it harder when your thinking of buying one.

You need to let me take that 4.8is off your hands, but only if you've fixed the rear seat belt, lol.

Hopefully not too much to sort. These seemed to bottom around 2 or so years ago. The money can be similar between a car wanting and an example well maintained.....and then there are the lower mileage garage queens that will significantly drop residually in regular use.

Let's hope that your sound tidy &  useable car stays good.

Circa 70k  miles upwards, maybe a sourcing tolerance for the odd mark and with recent history the preferable way to buy these for sure.

Hopefully I should have brought one about 3 yrs ago when you could pick a decent m5 up for £7.5k but you live and learn I suppose  [emoji3]

Hi

Nice colour on the X5 that's two I've seen in Escorial blue, very tidy a real credit to you and a nice collection.

The M5 definitely gets the thumbs up,I'm sure they will only increase in value.

I looked  at one about 6 years ago in silverstone before I bought a newer VXR but was a bit worried about repair cost then 3 years ago I got an X5, and so I guess they are no more costly than an X5 to run or repair.

Hi Greame

Thanks for the kind words.  I do like the x5 I have to admit but unfortunately for me I've just taken a deposit on it.  I would have loved to run it alongside the m5.

Regards

Deposit sounds promising.

Re E39 running costs compared to V8 X5, hopefully there shouldn't be took much in it. A V8 X5 having known potential for possible auto and suspension issues the M5 occasionally having Vanos and MAF issues and a tendency for being a little heavy on balls joints and wishbone bushes. I seem to recall the later facelift cars had a more reliable vanos but perhaps my memory a little rusty

It is mate thanks for all your help and advice over the last couple of days.  I will be hanging around on the forum though because we still have a facelift 4.4i sport in the family lol.  Love the BMs.

Yeah the facelift m5 is also suppose to be better on oil consumption.

It's a shame the x5 had to go because I do like it a lot but can't run the two of them unfortunately as much as I would like to.
