Heated Front Seats - Retrofit Problem

Hi Guys,

I've got a problem with my 2002 3.0i having retro fitted a pair of heated front seats.

I fitted a pair of seats from a 2001 V8 model, as well as the centre console switch panel.

The heated seats worked perfectly straight away.

The battery was disconnected while the connector plugs under the seats were unattached.

However, ever since I fitted the replacement front seats I've got various lights permanently lit on the dash.

I tried resetting all error codes using INPA, but that's had no effect as errors won't reset.

I refitted my original seats and centre console switch unit to return the car to the way it was, but the problem persists and I still can't reset the lights by cleaning errors.

Aaarghh,

Does anyone have any idea why this has happened?

The lights that are on don't relate to heated seats - although I appreciate BMW electronics don't always make sense like that.

Any help gratefully received.....

First thing to do is turn wheels from lock to lock..
I think that is looking for the steering sensor position...

Due to battery disconnection and nothing you have done..

Steamyrotter - you have literally saved me a sleepless night.

Thank you!!!

I hadn't driven the car after removing the seats, but now I've turned from lock to lock the problem has completely disappeared.

I've refitted the heated seats and am now a happy bunny.

What an easy and worthwhile upgrade - all that's needed are the heated seats and switch unit.

Glad I could help.

Those heated seats are a real boon.
Especially on a cold morning or if you have a dodgy back...

I love them and have them on the rear too, but a couple of passengers said it makes them feel like they've wet themselvesĀ  :))

just a quick question ??

was it a difficult job to retrofit the heated seats ??

i've been thinking about doing it on my 2002 3.0 x5 but wasnt sure if it would be a straight forward plug and play

Ian,

The retro fit was just plug and play - no complications at all.

My previous E39 had heated seats and I wasn't keen on doing without them. I use them all the time at the moment, well worth the effort.
