Spare wheel

Probably a controversial statement but I'm actually a fan of the 17" 5 spoke wheels which I believe were the standard fit option - I prefer the chunky tyre look
Mine came with 3 in great condition and one which is chipped and bubbled with corrosion. Rather than pay £50~ to get it refurbed I noticed that I could pick up a spare wheel on ebay for £60-70, with the benefit of an unused tyre. Is there any reason why you shouldn't use the spares as a full time replacement?
PS. the spare on mine has been kerbed so not an option.

17" were indeed the standard fit on the base spec (non Sport) trim X5.
No problem at all using the spare wheel as a full time wheel as long as all are the same. The only reason the 19/20/21" cars had a speed restriction when fitted with the spare was down to it being a different width and rim size. The tyre is a normal running tyre.
The only thing I would suggest you look at is the age of the tyre itself. If over 7 years then put a new one on it as the rubber will be ageing and getting weaker. The production date will be a four digit code on one sidewall. Two digits for the production week and two for the year. It's not essential but if you are going to run it full time, would be a wise precaution IMHO.
