My New Toy

Post by CondorX5 » Fri Jan 14, 2011 10:25 pm

Company Car ..... arrives on Friday. I gave up on the Kia as the company are messing about so much - no idea when, if ever, the cars will arrive and offered to sell me a small engined one (1.7l diesel) with guaranteed buyback when the real deal arrives......but, with no idea when this will be!!! Dont want to drive a pram for unlimited time and then they couldn't tell me when I could have one of these prams, anyway!!! So cancelled and asked for deposit back.
Car broker found me this very well specced Ford Kuga....its the 2.0 Duratorq engine, 163PS, with almost all the option boxes ticked........so I gave up on all the messing around and got the company to buy it....never thought I'd be excited about getting a Ford Anything, but it looks reasonable and it means I won't have to tot up starship mileages on my beloved X......

Here are some pics of the Little Monster:

 that's what I think of most cars next to my Big Gal....... our A class is called Dora (the Explorer) and actually resembles a shopping trolley  plus she takes pram wheels :D At least the Kuga is blessed with an expensive 19" alloy "optional extra". Couldn't get a new X3 or Q5 under £40K in the spec I wanted, and the Q5 is ugly, anyway, X3 is ok. Squishkai (yuk) Xtrail (yuk) Tiguan was , well, a bit spartan and boring!!! Toys toys toys, must have toys. Its that BMW fever you know!!! Not treatable!!! Don't like that silver back underplate much, but hey, I didn't have to pay......and its quite nice to drive :driving:

IMO a far better product & image than the Kia...........sorry but image not a patch on the Ford which has multiple dealers if ever needed.

Cant say I am clued up on the Kuga but I actually like the look of the car outside & inside.

In past I owned 6 Ford's including a 4x4 & hardly had any trouble from any of them.

That car nothing to be ashamed of and IMO Fords less tacky than many mainstream names & even some older prestige badged cars ...........

Decent colour, spec & trim combo.

Most impressive small car I have driven in recent months was the latest Fiesta.

Good choice  :)

......you wouldn't want an Audi. Let's just say that there is a growing feeling that the reputation that BMW Owners had a few years ago has now 'migrated' to drivers of certain Audi's.

I like the Kuga too, and it has a pretty good reputation. Did consider one if we were going to downsize as the new X3 was still a year or more away and I got 'told' by financial control (aka The Wife) that I didn't need to replace the X5 - which prompty ate its gearbox. You made the right choice leaving the Kia behind. They're alright, but no more than that.

Prefer it to the Kia TBH!

Well done Condor... for some reason I wouldn't have even looked to Ford but they make some good and reliable stuff. Probably only because the dealers near me has a rep for being terrible.

Well done.

I was well into "lose the will to live" territory with this crossover car selection!!! Seems like not much of a recession on anywhere as well-specced crossovers with a decent-ish engine are rare as hens teeth; waiting lists of nearly a year long on some models (Q5) and between now and never on others.....(Hyundai ix35, new Sportage), and months and months on Qashqai, new X3, Volvo XC60, VW Tiguan, Honda CR-V and Kuga. I nearly gave up altogether and went for a 5-series "normal" car, but just had enough energy for one more effort and hunted about for a while until I found a car broker to do the leg work as I really didn't have the time with my work schedule.

In retrospect, the choice of the Kuga does seem to be a good one as its generally viewed as being a class leader in CO2 emissions, quality etc. The quality of new, highly specced Fords is actually quite amazing - I suppose we get stuck in the mindset of marque snobbery if we're not careful, and miss the progress made by brands like Ford. Its hardly cheap, mind you - at its top spec, the Kuga is well over £30K!!!! Luckily, the preregistered one I'm getting had around a £6K discount, given that well specced Kugas seem to get snapped up so quickly, I'm quite happy and look forward to getting it and a fuel consumption of over 40mpg instead of 24-30 on the big V8......plus I don't have to pay for tyres / services / tax / insurance although of course, it is yet another income tax burden........

At least my beloved X won't be piling up starship mileages and wanting expensive services quickly ........

Tiguans got an almost universal verdict of hard / not-that-comfortable ride and TBH, it looks quite plain and boring to me, a bit like older slab-sided Merc MLs. Plus you get to pay even more than Ford's prices (the cross over market looks to have quite inflated prices in top spec, generally)......
The 163PS Duratorq engine has had good reviews and I'm actually looking forward to this, my first diesel car and the smallest "little" engine I've driven in many a year as a regular daily drive. I think a "facelift" or some other model change is set for this year or next, it will be interesting... I get to change just before first MOT due!!

I like the look of the Kuga, and even considered myself, but SWMBO didn't want another Ford (badge snobbery lol).

Duratorque engine has great reveiws and the car is more than capable as well as looking good.

Great spec too.

Nice choice from a increasingly crowded and interesting market sector

I like the look of it, it is the r-line or whatever they are called with the big wheels and a nice colour. It has the 170bhp engine
