Service Interval

Not wishing to be paranoid but am I right in thinking that I only need a service when the car tells me ?  At the moment it's saying the service is due in 15k miles or June 2016. It was bought new July 2014 so it'll be 2 years without a proper look over at the dealers.

Makes the service packag look slightly less value too  :-[

Has been that way on all my BMWs.  You should get a brake fluid change at two years.  I had my original oil changed out at 1,200miles to get new engine swarf out of the system, but it was two years before it was done again.

Mine is now 4 1/2 years old with 21k miles and has been serviced twice, plus two fluid changes.

It has been looked at several more times because I have winter tyres and each time the set is changed the dealer does a 90-minute 'safety check' with the car on the ramp.  Any error codes are also checked and flagged - none shown up so far though.

I paid £1,200 for an all inclusive service pack on my E53 and it got used once!  The salesman told me I would need new brakes every year, a service every year and various other things doing.  It didn't need any of it!!  It was however in and out of the dealer every few weeks for warranty repairs though >:(

I got the service pack "thrown in". So far the car is a year and a half old and never been serviced.

My last e70 was kept from new for 3 years - it got serviced once.

Thanks chaps. As it happens, mine is in for a winter/summer tyre swap so they will presumably to some sort of check at that point, although they have postponed doing the wheel sensor update as it could take a couple of hours to update. They plan to reschedule when they can give me a loan car.
