Hi and welcome.
I guess you have a preface lift X5, as the angel eyes were fitted to the facelift cars.
The headlights your are thinking of are aftermarket units called Depo headlights.
The facelift lights are not interchangeable with the preface lift cars.
You can buy seperate circular tube lights that can be mounted inside your original headlights, but need the lenses removing and re gluing back on.
There was some Depo headlights for sale on here, but may have now gone
Search EBay for E53 Depo headlights, there not cheap though

Well it's great to find someone in the same boat as myself.
I have an imola red, 2002 4.6 x5 and love it to bits. With exception of the headlights.
To be honest, these after market headlights for the e53 in my opinion don't look the best. The depo ones linked to this post look the best I've seen but personally speaking I would like to have headlights that mimic that of the facelift models. I understand without changing the whole front end this is not possible and ofcourse I would never do this anyway. I'm wondering if there's someway of converting the oem facelift angels into the moulds of the preface lift headlights. I've read other forums and struggle to follow what other x5 owners have done without seeing actual photographs. I'm toying with buying a set of preface lift headlights and try to some how merge them with angel eyes from and e39. This would give me the desired genuine angel eye appearance in the standard fitting headlights. I'm not too fussed about the orange indicators which I read some folk have dremmeled out and painted with reflective paint.
Anyway, be glad to here of anyone's experience of this, any suggestions or comments. Any advice is truly welcomed.
Ps hope I've not taken over someone else's post!!
Chris

Some one may have suggested it already, but I spotted a good looking set of angel-eyes conversion rings on e-bay to get the facelift look.
I have a facelift, and reckoned the conversion would work well = ... but you will have to cut the sealant holding the plastic lenses on, and ensure you do NOT so much as make a finger print on the reflectors to keep them shiny.
It certainly looked like the E-Bay finished item would have brighter halo rings than the OEM set-up... & a damned site cheaper too..

To get the headlights out requires unplugging everything first then undo 4 screws to the top and rear. Then carefully lever forward releasing the small trim piece below.
If you headlights are older than 2003 you can split the lenses off by heating the sealant and pulling them apart..
Post 2003 they used a different sealant that won't soften when warmed.
You have to butcher them..
Mine were post 2003 so I cut the lenses off carefully behind the lip.
I have added smd led rings which are sodding bright...then resealed with plenty of silicone!!!

This is all great stuff guys. Thank you so much.
Can you give me an idea of the angel eyes you were referring to on eBay? I've looked myself and it's so much if a minefield!!!

Well, I've just broke the bank on a set of xenon lights. They appear to be oem and were originally imported from Germany. Never seen ones like this before but they look good. Hopefully this will update the look of my car. Let me know what you think.
eBay number 271832950223.

TheY look like standard xenons that someone has split open and removed the reflectors.

They do look like that right enough but I'm assured they aren't. Time will tell!!!

Re the misted light lenses.
There is a kit from Halfords or most motor stores that has some lens restoring goodies, various sanding pads, a drill mounted buffer & some lens cutting compound..
My facelift lenses were bloody awful... and this Maguires refurb' set fixed the issue perfectly

I have tune up my light a lttle bit like that. I have change xenon lenses to bixenon from some audi (fits p&p) then i make them a little bit darker inside because i dont like this orange lip on the edge and i make covers of corner light and long light a little bit darker. After that i have put smd rings and it looks likr that.
Stage 1 Plastic around lense get black from inside so its not mat
Stage 2 Half of the plastic on long light is darkened. Later all of that and yurn light plastic i have make the same
Stage 3 Fitting SMD rings
And stage 4 back on the car
