New Factory Order - Must have options?
New Factory Order - Must have options?
Hi everyone, first post
We are just about to order a shiny new X6 from the factory and thought it might be a good idea to get some feedback from actual owners about specs and options.
What do you consider a must have?
What options did you order and now love or regret?
What options did you not order and now regret?
Any comparisons on engines - I'm feeling a pull to the 4.0D
Anyone have the B&O audio system? - I can't find any detailed info on this system, even on the BMW or the Bang and Olufsen official websites? What does the X6 come standard with, media wise - we are big on in-car entertainment, love music whenever we drive and have 2 young kids with tablets.
Any basic info we should know before buying, specific to the X6?
thanks a million for any input or links to relevant threads

Hi, excellent choice not sure what colour you are going for but the 20" painted black wheels are great with the wide 315 rear tyres. If you can opt for non Run flat tyres so much the better.
Opt for the 3rd rear seat, its well worth it when it comes to selling it on.
I would have liked the sunroof and head up display too but did'nt think hard enough about it.
Good Luck

Re: New Factory Order - Must have options?
Cool thanks.
Yeah, the 3rd seat in the back is essential when you have kids, it's what stopped me buying before when the X6's I saw all had two seats in the back.
I'm keen on the heads up display too. Cockpit and interior stuff are probably more important than externals. It's a family car, so I have to go easy on the performance tweaks, hard ride sport stuff etc.
The wife wants the multimedia for rear seats for the kids, but I'm saying they are better off with their tablets and a set of headphones Looks like a lot of money for two displays and I can't find much detailed info about any of the interior packages on BMW's website, especially multimedia.
Any links to that would be appreciated.

Re: New Factory Order - Must have options?
Hi and welcome to the site.
Options are really down to what you feel you will use. The longer you intend to own the car the more options could be worth while. As you will find out when it comes to selling or part ex'ing the car the options will have very little value. To give you an idea, my X6 had £15k of extras but after four years and 44k on the clock I only got £2k more than a standard car. Now that said,
Comfort Seats are great,
Head up display is more useful than I would have expected,
Comfort access is worthwhile,
Rear camera really useful but surround view was less useful IMO.
20" wheels look great but can affect the ride, 19" non run flats where my preference.
Agree, use the tablets for the kids. The rear displays overpriced.
I'm a big fan of B&O but again it's one of those options that may not give you a return when selling.
Pro NAV is a must IMO.
Kids will love rear heated seats.
Four zone heating not much use though
Comfort close a waste of money, learn to close a door first time.

Re: New Factory Order - Must have options?
Pretty much agree with Don except on 4-zone a/c. My other half travels in the back with our little one on longer journeys as he gets 'difficult' on his own. She can set her a/c temp to what she wants.
Pro Nav is a must, as is bluetooth and the streaming options - they have a new name now - but was called smartphone integration. Comfort seats are a must. I would also go for adaptive LED lights with High Beam Assist if I was buying another one. B&O may sound nice, but you are in a car with road noise so that kinda takes the point of a high end sound system into the 'pointless extra expense' pool for me. And you won't be able to run it for very long with the engine off as the battery WILL die on you after about 20-30mins!!
Must be getting close to the end of production now for the E71 and the arrival of the F16 so you ought to get big discounts.
The 40d engine is definitely better but don't be fooled by the number, it is still a 3-litre just with twin turbos.
All 40d models have Sport Suspension (the X6 is supposed to be the 'sporty' model) - or they did when I ordered mine. Options were a cost add-on self-levelling air for the rear only or all round for even more money. My wife finds air susp makes her car sick so I have the normal non-air sports set up.
19" wheels look too small so for me 20" are a must - with a 19" set for winter.

Re: New Factory Order - Must have options?
In fairness to X5sport, 4 zone AC has it plus's but it was usually kid(s) in the back of mine so it was another toy that was either left on full heat or freezing cold. Agree with the LED lights, just didn't know they were available on the E71. On a side note on the LED lights, you may have to clear the lenses in winter as they produce little to no heat so don't defrost the glass, well this is what I've found on the Leaf with LED lights.
Another option to consider is the steering wheel heating, a nice touch although on mine it only ever got luke warm.

Re: New Factory Order - Must have options?
Thanks for all the replies.
Still wondering if anyone has info on the media options available on the X6 or links to where to learn about them?

Specifically some comparison between the various audio options available: standard, extra, harmon kardon and b&o. What does the X6 multimedia come with as standard: usb, ipod interface, cd, dvd, mp3 etc? Does the bluetooth system take all sources or just phone? Is it standard or part of an enhanced package?
I've searched google and can't find ANY detailed info on the B&O system. BMW and B&O websites give only a few lines of marketing hype and a couple of images.
In fact, BMW website is pretty sparse on info about all the options and packages. Clicking on more info for the most part just shows a slightly larger image than the one already displayed for the option or package!
Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place?!

Re: New Factory Order - Must have options?
It's not that simple but all will be in the official car brochure. Different markets get different options and kits in the packs.
Which version of the X6 are you looking at? E71 or F16? That's a 1st gen or 2nd gen car. F16 is the brand new model. No one on here has one as yet so you may need to ask the F15 folks - new X5 - as the options will almost certainly be the same.
The different sound systems just add more and better speakers and a bigger amp.....that is in the brochure
What is standard is also in the brochure and price lists. Downloading both will be your best bet.
