I know that this is a topic already discussed but i had a Recall notice inspection carried out last November for Propshaft wear on my X 5 4D,( 2011 ) which had then done approx 19,000 gentle miles, no fault found by Main Dealer. Now three months later at 23,000 miles, firstly i have noticed a drone on the motorway when my foot is off the accelerator ie when slowing gently for traffic etc, so no load on the propshaft. When you then accelerate again the drone disappears, and returns immediately you start to slow. Secondly whilst parked ,when selecting either "D" or "R" during parking i get an occasional jolt , as if slack is being taken up by the drive shaft ?
The Main Dealer are to re inspect the car tomorow so i e mailed them to describe the sounds and driving experiences, and they said it may be a wheel bearing or the transfer box ? As the X5 has only done 23,000 miles i would not expect gear box issues, and i have not noticed any issues going up or down the 8 ratios in normal driving.
Having carried out the Warranty recall inspectioin in November 2014, is there any reason why they cannot do it again, as my car is listed as in the batch with regards to Prop shaft problems.
Just concerned they want to bill me rather than replace the shaft under recall warranty !
Any advice on what i should do please anyone ??

Re: Propshaft Vibration X5 4D
There have been a couple of instances on here of the 8sp box and/or transfer box failing at very early miles unfortunately. Still very very rare, but....
If it is the backlash issue it really should be changed as part of the recall process, even if it was fine four months ago. It might have been incorrectly checked!
I would certainly expect some sort of support given the low mileage on yours though (unless you have a non-BMW warranty in which case they may well just walk away - as they did with my E53 box failure 5 years ago).

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Propshaft Vibration X5 4D
Now you mention it, my X5 does the same thing. I was thinking I was overhearing nothing, but what you describe, the light drone on the motorway when coasting. I have exactly that. Just take it back in and say you want the same thing checked under the warranty recall. Say you are concerned they may have missed somthing as your car is exhibiting symptoms of propshaft wear. Worst case they will charge you an hours labour for checking it.

Update on Dealer Visit
Yes Main BMW dealer reinspected the propshaft for wear on the U Joint and for circumferential play, none found. Checked Gear Box settings, oil levels and Diff all checked ok , charged me £ 65.00 which i paid .
They said my tyres although legal at 3- 4 mm front and 2- 3 mm rear it may be tyre noise associated with a worn tyre as one is a part worn which was punchure repaired , which i know about .
The overrun noise is noticable at 70 - 80 mph when my foot is taken off the accelerator and i still find the parking selection on D or R a bit jolty, so cant believe its tyre related ! Ive had two inspections now one at 19,000 miles in Nov 14 and one at 22,800 miles last week .
Dealer did offer to reset gearbox program , but BMW GB advised not.
This is my forth X 5 , of various engine sizes and never had this drone before , anyone else experiencing this on a 4 D X 5 ? ...

Got the same, sounds like gearbox tailshaft bearing to me, trailing throttle. Not had a chance to get it up in the air yet.
