Hi guy's, it's been a few years since I've been on this forum, but I'm back again looking for a E70 LCI 40d sport model. I had found 2 cars which were just right, blue and oyster leather, one private and the other at an independent garage.

Both went through the HPI fine and both are in good condition, one with 43k miles and the other 50k miles however both are missing some early service history, from the service book.

The private one is showing history in the book from 27k miles, now on 43k miles, it has 4 stamps from 27k. He is the 2nd owner and bought from a garage at 28k, one previous owner to him. This car even has a service pack from new for 5 year or 100,000km so I'm lost where the history has gone.
The dealer car is showing a stamp at a dealer at 18k miles and then an indy at 48k miles, nothing more. There is a space for a stamp between services, 3 owners previous.

I gave BMW service line a call who confirmed the service intervals but have no records of servicing during the gaps, they did say the information is not 100% accurate and allot of servicing isn't logged through to HQ in some dealers. Also called the dealers who I knew had serviced and they don’t show records.

So I've put both cars on hold right now as spending £28k with missing history would be foolish, what I would like to know is what typical service intervals for a 2010/11 car.  oil, brakes, vehicle check etc.
For a 50K car should there be around 4-8 stamps for a 4 year old car?

Does the car's nav screen show the service intervals like the latest models?

Brake fluid every two years, servicing every two years or 20k miles approx.

I've had my 40d (new Nov 2010) fully serviced once in 21k miles plus one oil change (elective at 1,200 miles as I didn't want crud from a new engine lying in the pan for two years) and 2 brake fluid changes.  The car currently says 18,000 to the next service which would be around 40k. 

It will be due a brake fluid change in 2016. I expect a time based service warning to come up long before the mileage though, and I think that is Oct/Nov this year.

Mine is also on a 5yr service pack which runs out this year.

Go into the menu vehicle settings and youll find the service data on the computer, when you go to the dealers they plug your key into a device and they tell you what you need to have done, thats how they have done mine even down to the cabin filter being changed

Mine doesn't, but as above, data is stored in the key.  A dealer should be able to pull that data up and I'm surprised they said not all dealers feed info in.  I though it was all run as an interconnected system so any BMW Dealer could see what had been done, when, and by whom (on the official BMW system, not by an Indy) at any time?  May have been a bad assumption if my part. :-[

Dealers within a group say "Coopers"can see work carried out within the other Coopers dealers but not dealers such as "Sytner". i've been speaking to a number of dealers over the past couple of days. not all infomation is logged especially when an invoice is not required when using the service pack.

I ended up purchasing the private X5, I found the early oil service was completed by Coopers York @13k, not in the book but said they would be happy to stamp the service book, I asked about the invoice, but was told one wasn't generated as the service was covered under the service pack.

My book isn't stamped at all, but the car has always been to the same Dealer who tell me it could be printed in request.

Seems daft that the so called 'Dealer Network' can't actually see what's been done!  That was the reason behind not stamping the books.  Even if the customer isn't paying - as with a service pack - there should still be a record available.
