Dash Camera Installation - Help Needed

Hi all,

Just bought a cheap dash cam from eBay, I've found a good earth and a permanent positive on an unused plug behind the dome light on the ceiling (possibly intended for sunroof but I don't have one) but I can't find an ignition positive up there. Can anyone confirm if there is one in this location?

If not I intend to run a cable down the a-pillar to the fuse box but is there an easy method to gain access to the rear of the fuse box as it looks pretty well fixed in there?

The cam also comes with an RCA type video out connector to view live and recorded footage, now i'm presuming it would be too easy for there to be an RCA video input at the rear of the head unit so any ideas on the easiest way to connect this up?

Thanks in advance.

You'd need to go to the fusebox for an ignition wire tbh. As the fusebox, once the glovebox is out the fuse panel is only 4 small bolts and it'll drop down. I've gained access to it a few times as the relay for the heated steering wheel has to go on in the back of it.

As for video input to the standard headunit, I'm sure you can get an AV input module that will interface into the back of the headunit (as there is an AUX input).

Thanks Raj.

Can the 3.5mm video aux socket behind the centre armrest be used for this purpose?

Just a small !!! point, make sure the camera operates on a 12 volt feed, some don,t.
Very small transformers are available from Amazon for less than a tenner .
I fitted one a couple of years ago and wrote a ''How to'' on it.

3.5mm jack is only for audio not video.

Camera now up and recording but still not figured out a way to get it onto the head unit screen

And yes your right Raj, forgot that was audio

Is it possible to simply tap into the TV pair coming from the Nav unit? My Tv tuner is analogue so won't work anyway?
