I have subscribed this weekend to the connecteddrive feature and been given a 14 day cancellation if i want to.
I am a little confused as to what services i will actually receive based on the car spec. I am expecting to see the connecteddrive feature on the idrive menu but at the moment it just says BMW services. Also, i have downloaded the 2 BMW apps on my iphone ready. Does the connecteddrive use my phone data or just the on board connection. I am not activated yet. Here are the options on the car. 2011 model built in Feb 2011.

By the looks of it, you'll get;
BMW's mini Internet portal (a bit like those old school WAP browsers on mobile phones about 10 years ago)
Google send-to-car
The remote lock/unlock system via smartphone should work
Emergency SOS call (I think - do double confirm all of this with them)
All data goes via the car's internal SIM card, which is 2G only for MY2011 and I believe they use T-Mobile, but don't quote me on that.

BMW Apps needs SA6NR which appeared in April 2011 as a cost option.

It can be retrofitted you just to check if your car has the kit although it looks like it should. Don't know about the cost, but a Dealer like CotswoldBMW on here will be able to tell you. You've got the 4 pre-requisites already in the car (Combox, USB ports 6NF/6FL and 616) which I think is all you need. The COMBOX version may not allow it, but Cotswold BMW will confirm.

I used to have a 2012 BMW 6 series and I had BMW Apps retrofitted to it.
The min. requirements were COMBOX, Professional CIC nav, USB interface and USB Audio for smartphone cradle. You have all of these so I can't see it being a problem - HOWEVER, some dealers are more on the ball than others. One dealer told me it was impossible, and another dealer fitted it for me.
However, I didn't feel that it was worth the retrofit cost in the end. It was good, but it didn't justify how much it cost to retrofit.

Just a final thing, the dealer will probably try to tell you that you need a snap-in adapter for it to all work, which is untrue (other than for the video function and the PLUG-IN function - which only work on certain models of iphone anyway).
What phone are you using?

Okay, I don't know if they do a cradle for iPhone 6 yet? If you want a cradle to do PLUG-IN and video, you specifically need the "MEDIA" version as opposed to the BASIC or CONNECT flavours.
But for absolutely everything else, just plug it into the standard USB slot under the armrest using an original apple USB-to-lightning cable and off you go

Had it activated today. Nothing happened when I plugged my iPhone in. The music on USB stick sounds much better than from the phone via Bluetooth and not bothered really off the phone via USB. After a couple of hours flicking around the functions, I am not that impressed on what benefits I am getting for £120. Can see a call to BMW for a refund.

I think the only bit I actually use is the 'Send to Car' function for Satnav. Having emails could be useful, but not a 'must have' given the limits in the system.

I also thought I would have the Google web function but it is just text based searching.
