Rear ended again!

Hello folks...pardon the expression, but I've been rear ended again. This was done at motorway speeds when some stupid ******* **** in a lorry pulled right in from of me causing me to slam the anchors on (ABS went mental, and I learned that extreme braking in the X5 causes the hazards to come on!). Unfortunately the guy in the hired Corsa behind me didn't stop in time and blootered me up the backside. I was expecting massive damage to my car, but I could not believe how little my car was damaged compared to his - thank God I was driving a comparatively big car and the Corsa wasn't a lorry. Had my four year old in the back who was completely unfazed! Thankfully no one was hurt. The car is in the BMW body shop getting fettled, probably 2-3 weeks as need a new lower tailgate etc., got a nice F15 40d as a courtesy car, SE model on 19" wheels...MUCH more pleasant ride!

Where was I going? To the train station to pick up my in laws...they will never, ever hear the end of this.

Check out the pics...any posts on (a) the cleanliness (or lack of!) of my car, and/or (b) still having the badges on the tailgate, will be ignored!

Thank god you are alright ! More & more lorries try their luck , on the motorway yesterday 2 wagons were racing each other so one of them went into the 3rd lane causing utter mayhem .

At least you are OK.  Foreign truck by any chance?  Another good reason for a dashcam as you can then get the truck info and with any luck the driver gets done for dangerous driving!

Having seen the same sustained by other vehicles when they hit something like an X5 I can see why families end up with them.  I'd much rather carry my 2-year old son in the X6 than say a Ford Focus, or Astra!

As long as your all ok that's all that matters as Richard says good job you were in the X5 and not in a focus or worse still a Leaf

Cheers guys. I used to regularly have debate with my wife as she only ever wants to buy "high up cars" as she calls them, but having seen how much worse the Corsa came off, I'm glad she insisted.

Like you've said, the main thing is that everyone is OK. I will be getting a dashcam fitted ASAP, as I didn't get the the reg. no. of the lorry, luckily for the driver. Just five minutes worm your honour, him and me alone!

Now if the car had been even dirtier we wouldn't have seen the badges...........which would be a good thing !

Glad all ok though !

Surprised the other cars airbags did not go off.

So no underneath damage on the X5 M 50D ?  :))

Clearly wasn't hard enough to knock the badges off!

At least if you are getting a new boot you can ask them to leave them off!!

He was distracted reading the mass of badges on the back so it's your fault  :)

It's the wife's fault; I drive the Golf most of the time nd she never gets the X cleaned. I once watched my dad trying to get coach lines off a Granada with a hairdryer, so I might try than on the badges.

Currently standing getting rainied on at Murrayfield after another Scottish capitulation. So, pish on all counts though.

I said after about 25 minutes, "Watch us lead for the whole match then lose it in the last minute!".

I've lost the heart to care TBH. I'll be encouraging my boy to take up rugby (he's four months), but his mother is from Kent so he'll be eligible for England and I'll be extatic, if he ever gets that far, if he plumps for England.

It's not so bad:
