BMW engine ECU's are locked to the car they have been programmed to so you can't just reuse a second hand ecu from one car to another
we have been programming and unlocking these used ECU's for many years now, this means if your ECU has problems or is dead you don't have to buy a new one from a dealer which costs up to £1000-£1600
or you think it's the ECU which is faulty but not sure with out trying another we can make a test ecu

some of the problems you may have

your DME or DDE engine ecu is dead,

your X5 dose not start,

you have no comms to your ECU,

the ECU pins are corroded away

your ECU has the wrong software flashed to it (it dose happen)

had you ECU flashed, you or they killed your ECU flashing the ECU,

burnt out ecu

Water in the ecu

we have a way to repair them as well

we can unlock, repair your ECU,or provide you with a ECU

we can unlock and even put back to a virgin state(the same as if you of brought a new ECU from the dealers) so a main dealer or a BMW independent can then reparogram the second hand ECU to your car

we keep ECU's in stock

X5 ECU's

petrols
3.0i DME ms43
4.4i ms7.2
4.4i me9
4.6i me9
4.8i me9

diesels
3.0d DDE 4 edc15
3.0d DDE 5 edc16
some edc17

We can now remove Dpf(diesel particular fitter) from the ecu' software

For engine conversions we can customise the ecu to fit the new shell
ie if you are using a m3 or v8 engine in a e30 shell you will have problems with the engine ecu looking for info from other moduals which are not there causing the engine not to rev to full rpm range and holding back

Where is the location of the ECU on a 2001 BMW X5 4.4i?

In the e box which in under the bonnet under the windscreen near side of the car
You will need to remove the main plastic cover in the center in front on the windscreen that sits around the pollen filter
Remove the near side pollen vent
You will then see a big black box on the nearside
Remove the cover and the engine Ecu will have DME on it
It is held in by 2 plastic clips which you you need to push away from Ecu as you lift the Ecu up to remove

Hi Jason my DME on my 2001 4.4 X5 has a problem it keeps showing the throttle is jammed even though it's been replaced with a genuine new throttle body. I've been told the DME unit maybe at fault, how much would it cost to test and if possible fix the unit?

To test a new Ecu on your car to see if this fixes your problems will cost 150
If you then wanted the Ecu it would depend which Ecu is fitted to your car
A replacement Ecu will cost between 375-500ish in total to pay
If it is not the Ecu then it would the 150 to try a new Ecu on your car

Jason if you're about on the 6th I can drive over to you with the parts, I won't be able to drive the car X5 over as it's a pig at the mo. Then we can have a chat about the problems on my 4.4.

Hi jason just to let you know that the ecu and throttle body worked straight away once plugged back in with no error codes. The X5 has still stalled only once though been digging around on the net about a service update and found out the rpm may have to be raised 100 rpm to stop the stalling. Apparently it's when there is a load caused by the steering not sure if you've ever heard of this before, just wondered what your thoughts were? Also will be looking to get my Mercedes E320 CDI Chipped at some stage soon. Thanks for looking into the ecu fault for me "Top Man". :D
