20" low profile Alloys/Tyres but spare is only 17" can the car be driven?

Hello.

Unfortunately one of my rear X5 315/35/r20 tyres has a screw stuck in the sidewall, my spare is only a 17" alloy I believe may be tyre size like 235/65 R17.

Without sounding ignorant I was wondering if I could use that spare for short journeys until I source what is going to be two new tyres I guess, of course spare is nowhere as near as wide, but I guess its not massively different in overall diameter as alloys are low profile.

Any advice would be appreciated and what do other people do in such situations that have larger alloys and perhaps not an identical spare.

Is it safe to is it legal?

Thanks in advance

there's 1.2% difference in diameter between the two tyres which is fine.

Put the spare next to a wheel bolted to the vehicle & even tho the rim is a 17" rim....
They tyre wall height will make it approx the same diameter.

It IS safe to use.

What a brilliant helpful analysis. I staggered with the depth of detail in the reply

Thank you

if it has the power to turn them your range could double
