:hi: and hello.

A few folks on here with them and like them.

Generally reliable I think, and we would need a lot more info on the actual car spec to answer specific questions.  The 'twin turbo' is just the start.  What options etc are fitted?

Have an 08.  Think the tax is about £250ish....not the higher bracket.  So far no engine problems but i dont want to Jinx that.  Power is very linear and certainly helps a 2 1/2 tonne car shift.

As richard says.....let us know a bit more of the spec and we can probably advise better

Had my 2008 twin turbo almost seven months now. 74.000 Full Bmwsh ..........no probs so far, great power delivery, feels Very competent on the road! Real inspiring drive.
My first BMW and thoroughly enjoying the experience, every outing I look forward to. Strongly recommended, scrummiest motor I've had in almost thirty years on the road.
All the very best of wishes and good luck.

Hi - I've had my '08 'twin turbo' sd for just over a year now..  and no real probs per se.

Things to bear in mind are:-  Cost of tyres, Probs with Panoramic roof mechanics, and Swirl flaps.

http://www.bmwswirlflaps.co.uk/swirl_flaps.html
http://bmwspecialistreading.co.uk/what-are-swirl-flaps/

Forums say to get the flaps removed and blanked-off on cars over 60k just to be on the safe side (I've had mine done)..  but im sure there are loads of cars out there that still have them, and they are fine.

Other than that..  get it mapped and enjoy :)

They certainly do.  The E53 was the only one to escape those instruments of the devil!  Needed to get EU4, or higher, emissions controls.  :(

They are however supposed to be far safer than those that blighted the 2.0/3.0D engines in the late 90's to early noughties.

My E71 certainly has them.  :'(

After reading around there seems to be so much contradictory information.  Some say that the E70 3.0d has them and some say that the 3.0sd has them then others dont.

Have looked at realoem and cant seem to find them.  It seems the only way is to take the manifold off and look.

However there certainly seems to be less failures after they were modified

More info here: http://www.pmwltd.co.uk/pages/blanking-pates

PMW are the biggest guys in the UK to make and sell the blanking plates..  i think the basic mod is circa £200 plus vat.

Well worth checking/doing for peice of mind. I believe there is a more detailed car list on BMWland

Some do, not all...  I just had mine removed a few weeks ago! Grosvenor BMW Specialists in Reading steam-cleaned the inlet manifold, cleaned the EGR valve, and fitted a new oil breather filter whilst they had the manifold off doing the job.. its made a big difference in throttle response.

If you have a look at the engine section on REALOEM for your version, if the 'Intake Manifold AGR with Flap Control' - or very similar wording, but basically anything with 'Flap Control' - is listed for your car then you have them, especially if there is no alternative type showing.  :o

It seems to be the only way to check without disassembly.  The newer versions with the N series engines pretty much all do.

Hi all,no didn't buy it .It was what I'm looking for, 2008, grey, twin turbo sport, black leather, 7 seater, heated seats, plus lots of other bits but it had 100'000 miles with not one bit of history and it had not been looked after.
So still on the look out for one. Is any one on here selling one?
Thanks for all the replies .
