Has anyone purchased this separately?
Is there a time limit before you can claim?
I was reading some 3rd party and on new policies you can't claim within first 90 days
With potential gearbox lever issue I'm thinking maybe worth taking it out depending on costs
And also worried about anything else to arise

Re: BMW Warranty
I would be careful with third party policies as they can have a maximum claim limit of £500 and will only pay a certain amount for hourly labour cost which does always cover main dealer labor charges. I see this a lot at my dealership. I hope this helps with your choice.

Re: BMW Warranty
Celica I bought my 2011 40d only 6 months after the BMW warranty expired but the non-BMW dealer I bought it from offered me a 3rd party one so I was happy. 1 year later I had a gearbox issue which ended up with me needing a new 8-speed ZF box and mechatronics unit. Repairs came to over £9k - 3rd party only covered for first £2k only, so I argued with BMW that this type of thing shouldn't happen to a car like mine. They agreed, said it was a gearbox failure and ordinarily would have fixed it even though my car was legally out of warranty. But because I had a 3rd party warranty they could not get BMW GB to pay for it.
BMW GB company policy is if a customer has purposely taken their business elsewhere and not extended their BMW warranty, they will not cover repairs. In my case my dealer bought a 3rd party warranty and didn't extend the BMW one. I would have been better off with NO warranty, and BMW would have fitted a new gearbox for me at no charge.
I have learnt my lesson - it may not apply to you in your situation, but be aware.

Re: BMW Warranty
That's exactly what they did to me too. Warranty Direct paid for mine though. What annoyed me was the BMW did not even offer me an extended warranty. The supplying dealer had been bought out and their customer database was 'locked' by BMW.
