Hi Guys
Bit of advise would be greatful - Never taken a warranty out before on my cars but really considering this. Could you give me a rough idea of how many people on here have used warranty direct? how good they are? i know excess are specific to policies but a rough excess cost £50,£100, £150?
Also are you restricted to how many claims you make and are they fussy when you make them, i have done a search and found most people had a issue with not getting athorization before hand, i would never dream of this and leave the car always untill i got the ok then do the repair.
Would a Tranny gearbox fluid change at a indy garage affect them giving out a warranty? The basic price above seems to cover all major parts icluding turbo's gearboxes etc etc so is there a benift for the more expensive policy?
Some examples of actual cases would be appreciated and are they the best? or should i be looking else where? really think i need a warranty!!!! these cars are getting silly with repairs!!
thanks guys

I think I pay that, or close to it for 'Luxury Car Cover'. Ask them about it and then say you'll think about it. They usually ring a few days later and offer you a better price.......
It did save me the price of the gearbox repair less fifty quid so was worth it IMHO.

Mine was £330 for an '05 3.0d, excess £25 with Warranty Direct.
I had some battles with them, last one glow plug control box - that was covered, but not the removal of the manifold to get to the box. I did not renew.

Many thanks guys
They called me , got securegaurd 25 pound excess airbag cover included 80 % parts paid and 100% labour for £328 for 13 months, to be honest if the cover things like gearbox , turbos major egine like I clarifyed it did then I feel its a small price for a bit of peace of mind. Test will be in the claim I guess! Excuse typos! Fingers to fat for a blackberry!

A chap at work (not here today so I can't confirm who it's with) has a third party warranty on his '05 X5 3.0d - they will only cover labour rates up to £45/hour! Which is less than half what the main dealers charge.

With the package I took out with Warranty Direct I have the option of either main dealer or local indy. Some jobs really do need main dealer input so I opted for that but it did put the cost up.

When i took the policy out the recommended go for the INDY maintained policy which i have done. To be honest the INDY that i have used for years is BMW northwest and they can do everything that a dealer can do and have all the same equipment, software etc and order all their parts from BMW for all reapairs. Just not paying dealer labour charges.
The policy i have covers labour rates at £60ph for a indy and i confirmed with my indy that this was sufficent for them which it was, but not really bothered and if i need to use and it needs to go to one of WD's network garages then i have no issue it going there as long as its fixed.
I am very wary with warranty co's so i did try as hard as i could to make sure i had everything covered - the call went like this -
' so before i go ahaed and buy can i confirm the call is recorded?' - yes sir,
' its 10th jan and its 11:23 pm and i am speaking with Chris boor in camberley - that is correct sir.
'ok so i am covered for engine fialure , gearbox, turbos's and all the other araes you have read out to me ?' thats correct
'you will pay 100% labour and 80% parts and its with a £25 excess for 13 months?'- correct
'wear and tear will be active in 90days - but to confirm if my big end fails tomorrow that is covered from now' - yes sir
' if a part has to be removed ie - the turbo, the cost of a part to be removed to get to the turbo will not be at my cost for example?' - thats correct sir i have upgraded you to the higher cover for turbo failure as it has a more complicated system and extra parts are also now covered (im not sure about this?)
'i will read the docs you send and can change my mind?' yes sir - you have 30 days to cancel with full refund.
'i want to forget about my x5 now - so it is covered for everything you state and i do not wish to be in a situation where you later tell me thats not covered etc?' no sir we will stand by everyhting that we say is covered and have listed - we will not cover the exclusions which we have discussed and you will read in the docs, unlike other warranty co's we do not try and wriggle out of claims using the 'wear and tear ' rule and so you will be covered in 90 days for wear and tear'
'Ok thankyou - hers card number'
I dont think i could have said anymore and for £328 im pretty staisfied at the list they cover. with the x- my major concerns have always been the gearbox, turbos's and fuel managemnt systems, these seem to be the main killers and as long as these are covered and i end up paying £600 for a 7K repair - im happy

that's great - and how did you negotiate them as low as £328? And is it "Luxury" cover?

Yeah, I think I'd be happy with that too. When my gearbox failed a year ago WD would not cover the initial diagnosis labour charge (£60) as explained in their booklet, and I had a £50 policy excess and that was that. The rebuild cost them more than £3,500 so I'm happy with £110. The fuel relay failure claim is going on at present and they're paying about £145 of the £205 charges - most of which is labour. The part was £10.

Hi Smeee - i didnt really negoiate , i just too the advice of the guys on here who said do your qoute on line, submit it and wait it and they will ring you back, and they did with a better price.
they called me just as i was about to board my flight to vienna and i was in the departure lounge so he could hear all the flights being called, i told him i didnt have time to mess around and would buy the warranty if he could do a really good price now and now. He came to me first with £398 from £488 to start with a £50 excess.
I told him no and that AA wre doing one for £300 with a £25 excess (complete figure plucked from the air) - he put me on hold and came back with £346 with £25 excess. My flight got called so i told him to send me the deatils via email and i would review when i was back in the uk
(it wasnt my flight called) he put me bk on hold and came back and said it would be bottom price £328 if itook it now, which i did lol, then through some magical event i had loads of time to go through the small print in my above post!! lol
its the secure care policy - ive gone through the comparison table and to be fair its all im looking for, i might upgarde once the paperwork come as i notice sat nav is not included but he did include air bag and emmissions in my package along with a higher protection on the turbo side - not sure if this is a blag but heh.
I guess its only as good as when you claim - thats why if any other stories of claims would be handy.
Simmilar priciple to car insuarance - just come up with figures and see what they say - they will always come back to you with a figure so drill them down as far as you can go as long as you have the cover you want. I feel personally secure care is sufficient for me, will review when papaerwork comes.

Hi,
I took out a luxury cover policy with WD in 2009 when I bought my 55 reg X5 3.0d.
I think it cost about £ 450 but I got 10 months interest free payments & 15 months for price of 12.
Glad I bought it as I've just had over £ 1500 of repairs carried out ( PAS pipe, Cv boots & auxilary heater ) WD paid in full ( less excess ) even though I did not get authorization for first part of the work ( not completely my fault, see my other post ) but they could have refused part of it, so I was more than happy
Just got my renewal through for extra care ( luxury care only for cars up to 4 years old ) & it's £ 450.
I'm going to call & see if I can get it down but I will definately be renewing based on experiance so far.
Don't think I would like to run the car without some protection, especially with the price to replace a turbo or auto box
Regards, Phil.

Guys I am also looking at some warrantys at the moment after the scare stories I am hearing about the Auto box and the Turbo's giving up on these cars! Does anyone know if WarrantyDirect cover the other common issues like 'Rear Subframe Bushes' and worn front suspension parts?

Matt, what is the spec of your car, age, mileage etc? Did you get the Secure Care or Majorcare policy. I have just put my details in Nov 2004 with 68k miles and I'm getting offered £550 or £435. Not too sure if I need a warranty as nothings gone wrong wrong during my ownership but I guess it's peace of mind.

That seems strange,,, seems high, i got the secure care at 328 after some haggling as explained in my above post. I have just arrived back in the uk and i have opend the pack they sent me, i will be ringing them in the morning as even though i got the pesron to confirm that total coverage was from now and wear and tear is from 3 months (90days) it still seems a little vague.
It states on the top of the page ' all our policies are subject to 90 days wear and tear policy - this means that if a covered part has failed and the failure is as a result of wear it will not be covered'
this was my point when i was on the phone to them , i asked 'if i take the policy out and tomorrow my engine blows up, gearbox falls out or the turbo sets on fire!!! AM I COVERED!!!!? and the resonse was yes as it was catastrophic failure and is covered, now im not too sure i am!!
this is what gets me about these companies , you can clarify and clarify till your blue in the face but you always have this gut feeling youre not fully covered.
It also says that when i had the car serviced at a indy last , i bought the parts from euro car parts my self, it is saying if this is the case then i have to provide recipts and invoices for the parts!! luckily i have kept these, but what if i hadnt??? theynever said this to me.
I just dont know, im going to tell them im already not happy with the vague writting and will cancel and see what they say. i want the warranty but i want total peace of mind???? i think its a little too much to ask.
