I am just running through the spec of my E70 and have come across these 2 items. (Not picked it up yet..)
Can anyone shed some light what they actually mean and how/what I need to do to get the best out of them please? They are obviously something to do with phone linking.  If it helps I currently have an iPhone 6 so what do I need extra if anything?

S6NFA Smartphone Music interface for Smartphone

S6VCA Control for Combox

Thanks

Jeff

Hi Mate,

S6NFA is related to connecting your phone to the car, if you look in the middle console storage, you will see a cradle where you can connect your phone, you mentioned you have an iPhone 6 (like me) AFAIK BMW has not made one for the iPhone 6 (too big?). Connecting it there allows you to use the cars aerial as well as be able to play music from your iTunes library for example, although same effect if you connect to the USB port (music playback + bmw apps I think)

S6VCA = combox so you get bluetooth, can even play your music "wirelessly" through Bluetooth, I do it from Spotify, still can't get the BMW Apps menu to show up on ConnectedDrive for some reason :(

So these 2 options will allow give you USB / Bluetooth connectivity, sorry can't be any more specific still playing with my newlywed e70 :D

Thanks for that. So if I connect the iPhone to the USB in the centre console via the Lightning cable will it charge up as well as play music off the  iPhone?

Possibly.  It should show up as an external device in the CD/Multimedia menu, but there is a known compatibility issue between the Lightning cable and the car for cars that age.  The car understands the 30-pin Apple dock as the pin configuration was fixed whereas the Lightning connector itself can auto reconfigure its audio and video pins and may or may not work.  All you can do is try it.

The Combox is a multimedia computer all of its own and replaced the old TCU system for connecting bluetooth and mobile phones.  As above, if you fit the correct snap in adapter into the armrest mount then your mobile will connect to the shark fin antenna too.  If you have both 6NF and 6FL then you can use a 'multimedia' snap in (once available) to show artwork and video on the iderive display as it gives you an extra USB port within the adapter itself.  You should also already be able to play DVDs using the slot in the centre of the dash - as long as you are in 'P' or have the parking brake on.

Yep, mine charges up just fine, as well as display music info on iDrive when you select source as the device connected
