X5 2001 e53 suspension inactive after flat battery

I have just started my x5 after it has been stood for 14 months , the rear suspension was all the way to the floor but after starting the car it pumped up to what looks to me like normal height but the level inactive warning is on and the car is awfull to drive it feels like there is no suspension, very bumpy and heavy steering . The battery was completely flat and I recharged it overnight and it inflated fine as soon as the battery was reconnected . Please can anyone shed some light on why it looks right , level and well clear in the arches but feels like there is no suspension whilst driving ?????
Any help would be a massive

Could be that the level sensor is kaput?

Thanks for your advise could the level sensor cause the hard drive and be damaged by the car being left with no power for so long ???? The car was very low at the rear but when it pumped back up I thought all was fine , obviously not , where is this level sensor located ???
Thank you

My first thought is that your battery could be a contributor.
Flat and 1 days charge may not be good enough.
Get battery checked out as discharged for that long isn't good
The sensor, as Richard says may be iffy too.
You will need to check error codes and see what shows up.
Is it all round air suspension or just rear??
If all then you will need to reset error codes before it will play properly.
Won't explain hard steering though..
That may point to other issues..

Thanks again for the reply .
I think it's all round air suspension , there are no error codes regarding suspension suposadly as stated by the garage and passed its mot but is awful to drive very hard and feels like it's dragging something when you go over speed humps ????

It could just be linkages seized and not freed up properly from being sat like it for so long??

In Oxford green all the bits
Mileage is 158k with some history
Four new tyres 12 mth mot
Got light scratches nothing bad and stone chips to the bonnet front and bumper

Check the fuse, if the cars been standing it might have put the pump under a lot of load when initially levelling the car and popped me fuse. Mine failed recently after a flat batt and if was just the fuse.
