Hi all, my car has now saying service due, when I looked through the computer on the dash it is for the front brake pads, does anybody know approx how much this costs? i have 2008 3.0se with 27k miles and full BMW service history and would prefer to keep it BMWSH but not sure if any independent BMW specialists in my area or would have to stick to my nearest authorised BMW dealer?
Any help appreciated
(I am near Dundee Scotland)

Had mine done a couple of years ago by an independent who services the car for me every year. 76000 on the clock. He found that the cost of the BMW replacements (about £100 at the time) were twice as much as Mintex from a Europarts type factor. In his experience Mintex wear much more quickly with a lot of black sticky dust. So he fitted the BMW pads. At the last service in November 2014, 107000, he checked them - little wear to report. The car now has 109000 on the clock and the computer says 60,000 left. Glad I got the BMW ones. One thing - you'll probably need a new sensor wire as once the old one is removed, even if not worn, it can't be reused as it shows a fault and won't allow the computer to be reset. £30 if I remember rightly!

I think BMW use either Pagid or Textar pads. Both are available from ECP as is the sensor wire.

If you have a trustworthy garage near by (hard things to find) then they should only charge a maximum of an hours labour to change pads. Probably only half an hour. So £25-50.
But even changing discs and pads and the sensor would probably only take you an hour at home if you have the tools.

And you can bleed the brakes to change all the fluid at the same time. Double bonus

I used to do a lot of service work on my cars and motorcycles but work commitments restrict my time nowadays not forgetting its bloody freezing outside! However if I did decide to do it myself I would still have to get the service reset on the dash?
Thanks for the comments, if I did do it myself it would certainly save me some pennies for new tyres soon, hmm runflats or not...another long debate....but that's another thread

Service reset is also easily done by yourself!

I've just had a flyer through the post from BMW. £259 for front pads, £269 for rear pads (and £265 for oil and micro filter). (For vehicles over 4 years old)

Hmm, that's expensive. It's all a straightforward DIY job and as an example the front pads from Pagid via ECP are under £40 a set plus a new sensor is under £9. £210 to do the job! £210 for labour? I don't think so.
