Replacing pre-facelift Halogens with Angel Eyes.......

Post by RoShamBo » Thu Jan 29, 2015 11:29 pm

Hi chaps,

I have a 2003 4.4i Sport E53 X5 with factory halogen headlights (level adjuster thingy on the dash)
I want to replace these headlights with angel eyes and wondered if these would fit / straight swap.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111287197110? ... EBIDX%3AIT

I have done a lot of searching on the forum and there is so much info on here about this but I must confess to being more confused the more I read !

Also - would I be able to upgrade the bulbs on those lights to get a whiter light ? Looks a little yellow in the pictures.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Ro.

yes they will fit, and straight swap, they are depo headlights! fit a hid kit to dipped beam, leave angels yellow colour as there is about 4 bulbs per halo and it isn't worth it on these lights, I used to have same set, looked good

Thanks kjb !

Don't suppose you have a pic of them on your car you could share ?

I asked about the bulbs because knowing me the yellow might start to get on my nerves - so hassle and expensive it might be, but is there the option to change the bulbs for a whiter light ?

I don't have my old X5 any more sorry.  Stick with yellow angels and white hid low beams! the contrast is actuslly nice and angels stand out more in yellow than they would in led aftermarket, you just wont get the effect you are seeking if changing these bulbs for led.

fit the bulbs before you fit the new headlights, its easy then!! headlights are a doddle on pre facelift e53, bottom trim removed, 4 bolts out, two top two bottom, elec connections undone, out she pops!

Hid kits will be a H7 canbus slimline you will want.  Hids4u etc lots of places, be around £60 for a decent set.

Oh what about the motors for the headlight level adjusters ?
Will they cause any issues when swapping to those headlights ?

I swapped to a set of aftermarket ones and they have no electric adjusters just manual wind up ones so left my switch inside the cab non functional now, plus side they look ten times better, downside had to adjust them in my workshop and they have to stay where they are now regardless of weight being carried etc.

On the x5 and the like you used to be able to carry over the old motors from your original headlamps, I did that on an e53 X5 with depo headlights

KGB - I could live with this, not adjusted my headlights in nearly a year so far ;)

kjb - If it's an easy job I may give it a try while both sets of headlights are not on the car. If not then KGB's plan will kick in.

Thanks guys - appreciate the advice !
