Warning symbol advice.

Hi there.....I purchased a 2009 3.0d MSPORT last week from a independant garage with 70000 on the clock with full bmw service history.
Now this has only happened a couple of times, but when starting first thing in the morning I've noticed I get the Orange gear cog symbol with an explanation mark in the centre, with the usual warning on the idrive screen about having it checked out at your bmw dealer. The car runs very well with lovely smooth gear changes etc etc. the warning also goes after 10 seconds or so, and the car drives perfectly well. Like I say this does not happen all the time, in fact only twice.

So is it anything to worry about?  Does or has anyone else get this from time to time?

I hope I'm worrying about nothing....and hoping it's just a electronics glitch that all newish cars get from time to time.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Is that not something to do with the transfer box system??

Will need to read codes to pin point

Thanks guys for the fast replies.....yes, I looked in the handbook and its to do with the auto transmission.
Like I say though....it goes after 10 secs or so and so far it's only done it on starting first thing in the morning.
And the car drives and changes gear perfect.

Puzzled.

looks like a code read job as there are all sorts of things - and not all are transmission related - that could cause this warning light.
