Just for fun, so what made you / makes you want to get an X5?
I didnt know it at the time but as soon as I purchsed my first BMW (an 1999 E46 323se) I would be hooked on BMW's.
In order having owned another E46 323se, a E36 M3, E46 330ci M Sport, E46 M3 Coupe I always looked at the mighty X5 on the roads and thought one day I defo need to own one.
After a close friend lost 4 of her relatives in a bad car accident I thought sod it I wanted something that was really safe for me and my family as you never know whats around the corner.
I had my 330 converted to LPG a couple of years a go and now ive done quite a few miles at 1/2 the price of petrol my idea was to get a 4.4i X5 and get it converted to LPG so I could achive the equivalent of around 40MPG in relative safety.
A black 2003 4.6is came along at a fair price so I snapped it up. I gave it a service (more so i could feel warm and toasty inside and figure out thd basics of servicing an X5) I then had it converted go LPG within a couple of weeks.
After having the 'truck' as i call it now for over 6 months I think the following.
1) Straight from the start the car feels massive, you feel very high up and secure/safe
2) Because of the high driving position driving on motorways is alot safer you can see over the car infront of you and can see any vechicles that are breaking all of a sudden that you wouldnt normally see.
3) Being 4x4 the grip you get is amazing
4) Its just so dam handy for hauling stuff around, just fold the seats down and you've got a really useful machine.
5) Im not sure how the 4.4i or others 'go' when u put your foot down, but omg the thing accelerates like a lunatic, and the noise is like GOD himself chuckling, its actually quciker than my 330ci M Sport with is no slought trust me.
6) Basically every time I get it this beast it feels so special, I just cant wait for the snow.
All in all I love this X5

I Love the gearboxes.
O:-)
What an ingenious design and will of function..
How they managed to design something that can so youthfully jump up and bite you in the proverbial is beyond me..

I've owned BMW's since I was 18 and would never change to anything else! I've owned 9 BMW's in total and 3 of them including my current car have been X5's!

Is lpg even worth it at min. Near me petrol is £1 and lpg is 67p, factor in 10-20% less mpg, higher maintenance costs and thats about 1,000,000,000 miles to break even

I've never seen the point of converting to lpg because of the cost of the conversion!
It would take years of driving to save the amount you even pay for the conversion let alone the lpg system servicing aswell! ???

You can get LPG for around 52p a litre now if you shop around, lets face it petrol will go back up soon.
I paid for my 330s conversion in 4 months, ok so I did 15,000 miles in 4 months, now everytime I fill up its £35 vs £70, its a no brainer for me.
The X5 cost £1350 to convert and every time I fill up its like knocking £50 off the bill, so wont take long at all to pay for it then its 1/2 fuel all the way. Infact because the 4.6is is a big of a gas guzzler it wont take that long until the conversion cost is paid for.
Ill always buy a petrol car now and get it converted, if you're going to keep your car for more than 15,000 miles its an absolute no brainer.
Theres not a lot to the servicing, you just need to change a £5 filter every 15,000 miles, the lpg guys just check for leaks and hook up to a computer to check mappings etc.
Obviously you need to do the norm stuff as usual oil, air filter etc.
My 330s been flawfless on it and if I didnt tell u you wouldnt know driving it. 2 years and two £5 filter changes.
As soon as you convert you'll never go back.

The X5 cost £1350 to convert
[/quote]
That's sounds cheap, what conversion did you get, I always hear about BRC and Prinz but they are expensive, allegedly no stutter at full throttle - do you find it ok under all driving demands.
Thought it seemed like a good idea myself and there are some cars for sale that are already converted saving the conversion cost providing it's all working ok of course.
