X5M or 911 Turbo

Happy New Year everyone.

Had my Le Mans Ble 3.0d for a year and a half now.  Not intending in swapping until the Summer/Autumn if at all.

Curious I love the X5 but have longed for a 911 Turbo, they look fantastic and test drove the (996) version which was amazing.......although would the novilty wear off?

The X5 has so many great points.  The driving position is the one concern I have against the 911.

Could you give me thoughts on this please...... :'(

I think you will get bored of the 911 but if it is a box you have to tick then go for it as prices won't fall much more now

Can't say the same for repair bills though.......

Yeah I think you could be right, try and persuade the misses to get the 911 and I get the X5M, then when I fancy it, ots there  :))

And the 911  :P

Two totally different cars of course. Thread title may as well be " Not sure if I  want a soft roader or a sports car "

Re staying with X5 - Not sure if are referring to keeping your E53 or changing to an E70 as you refer to MSport.

I like the 996 to drive  albeit I have not driven a turbo or turbo s. The later facelift cars don't share the headlamps with early boxster. I think 02 onwards cars also come with BOSE.

I would  advise buying very carefully & suggest it would be well worth shelling out for a decent ramp inspection on anything you are serious on offering on.

Some trade specialists have better reputations than others. I am not saying to avoid private cars but be careful as expensive problems can be passed on.

I would agree the 996 won't be likely to loose much and depending on miles and condition you might see it rise a little money wise.. That said I haven't been watching  advertised prices on these recently.

The facelift C4S is a decent car and also has wide body styling - granted its not a  turbo  but maybe worth considering if your not planning to use all the performance of the turbo model.

Have to agree re potential for higher bills.

These are starting to get on a bit now and many kept nice are garaged  weekend toys with owners often driving something nastier everyday so as to keeep mileage and condition desireable.

Cheers for that, I think if I bought a 911 it would be the 997 Turbo.  E70 M would be the version i would like.

Two completely different cars, do what I did and have the best of both worlds get a 4.6is or 4.8is X5 and have a E46 M3 also, all boxes ticked and maximum bang for your buck  :P

Allegedly mixed stories re engine reliability on 997 IIRC depending what you read and who you believe. Not sure but seem to think non turbo engine prefacelift so you should be good as turbo has another lump. Of course I may be talking nonsense.

Very different cars in every way !

I ran a 996 Turbo for 4 years before getting the X5. Love the X5 but the 996 Turbo was quite simply THE best car I have ever owned. Before that I had a 996 C4S, 996 C2 and before that a Boxster S.

Beware running costs, as an example the last service on my 996 Turbo was nearly £4k and there really wasn't anything wrong with it. Having said that, utterly utterly reliable. In 4 years (apart from brakes, tyres etc) nothing went wrong with it, not even a blown headlight bulb. The engines are bullet proof (GT1 engines) and the whole car feels so under-stressed.
If I could have fitted my 2 dogs I now have in the back (or rather the front) of it, it would still be parked on the drive !
