Hi guys....Just asking if anyone has had the 3.0d E53 and swapped for the E70 3.0d?

If so.......Now I know there won't be too much difference in performance as they are both 3.0d's....but the E70 has more BHP.........Basically, my question is, could you feel any much difference between the 2?

Cheers guys

I have test drove the E70 3.0d M sport after driving mine it had the same 6 speed auto box but seemed sluggish on the up change also kick down was poor compared with mine as it was very hesitant . I thought it would be best to wait for the 2011 model with the 8 speed box as it was better on fuel aswell .
I asked the sales man once getting back from the test drive about the gearbox & he said that it was best to leave it in sports mode all the time which i thought was a bit strange as I dont leave my own in sports mode .
The car was quieter , more roomy , but lacked the feel of my own car must be biased !

These cars learn driving styles and adapt the gearbox to suite.  The person who previously owned that car may have driven around very relaxed in comparison to your driving style, and therefore a gearbox reset might have been an option!! i think my e70 is a far better drive in every way in comparison to my old e53.

That's what I was hoping to hear :)
Not that my current E53 is not a good drive.....it's just that now I'm taking the plunge on a E70 and was hoping it's even better.

Cheers

Just to add my E53 had quite good handling for a big 4x4 but my e70 handling is even better, probably due to the run flats, you do feel some bumps but nothing like a hot hatch etc. although more power i wouldn't say it is that noticeable, feel the power delivery is different on the E70 with more top end power and more even power over a wider range of revs, where as the the e53 all at the bottom end like an old school diesel, Average MPG on my old E53 31mpg, my e70, 26mpg, little bit heavy footed but my e53 was a manual. do I regret buying my e70, no way, E53 was a good car but was just starting to look a bit dated in my opinion and I like the stance of my e70 with dynamic pack.

Well I took the plunge and bought a 2009 3.0d MSPORT.
I have to agree totally with E53steve in every way. The handling is so much better....it feels like it's glued to the road, compared to the e53. Also I know what you mean about the power delivery....it seems a little sluggish to me on pulling away compared to my old car.....but at higher speeds there seems more power/ torque. As for mpg Its early days for me....but early signs are showing around 26 mpg......about the same if not better than my old car.
I had my E53 for around 2 years and loved it....but the look of the E70 with the wide arches and the overall more modern look made me want one. I've only owned it for just over a week, but absolutely love it in every way so far.

Regards

Good luck

I'm not sure the run flats help the handling though.

You will note that Alpinas and M models ditch them altogether

I've had  4  X 5s  Both 3D  and 4 D M Sport  and the first E 53 model was fantastic but a bit underpowered for overtaking at times. The biggest problems was the door seals and wind noise, the E 70 models have much improved  door seals and an extra 30 hp  and torque help .After 2011 the X 5  gets an 8 speed box.  The E 70 is i found a better built car with genuine improvements all round.  The power goes up with each Facelift and economy improves a little but not as much as the press would make you believe.  3.0 D  2009 onwards still only average 28-29 mpg  and only improves  to 31 -32mpg  in 2011 with the 8 speed , and today i believe they are genuinely getting about 33-34mpg average.  The steering and ride seem better on the E 70 compared to the E 53,which it still looks good today , rather like a 911 Porsche they seem to have evolved rather than drastically changed ! .

8-speed box arrived in early 2010, not 2011. It was part of the LCI updates on the X5.

Must be after Feb then. Mines a Feb '10 build date and has the 6-speed. Not that I mind TBH.
