Help with New Purchase - Newbie looking for support Please

Hi all,

Registered a few days ago and have been browsing the site extensively to get to know a little more about the X5. Loved the site and community and hope to be along you guys :)

So, I have decided to purchase an X5 due to two important things:

1 - Reliability. I am a proud owner of a 2008 320i Convertible (you can see my “self build” here on the e90 forum: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=847502). Love my car to death (Wife does not think so :-) ) Car has never given me any issues and it drives great.

2 - We are expecting! Yea, we are having our first baby (due in April) and I do need more room for all the things that come along when you carrying a family around! So the X5 has always been our first option on the list. Wife also loves it when she sees one and when you make your missus happy, you get her on your side for some more mods :D

I have set my eyes on two at the moment, they are from the same dealer and similar mileage except for a few features:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/b ... ars-twt001

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/b ... ars-twt001

Does the price seems high for the year, mileage and features? Also this dealer offers AA warranty, anyone familiar with it? Has anyone purchased from this particular dealer before or any experience with it?

Really looking to get all the features I can,  7 seater  and registered in 2012 > are what Im after and budget is around 35k.

Im not a great negotiator either, so any tips when approaching this dealer are welcome, what should I say over the phone, etc

Although I love cars, I am not an expert, so any help is really  appreciated specially buying such an expensive car!

Thanks guys!

Wow , that was some transformation of the 3 series. Raj needs to take note when he pops up here

I've been out of the X5 market for a while now but they do seem a bit toppy in price

At that age and mileage I would have thought they would be roughly half the original cost, surely they aren't £70k spec are they!?

Those prices are too high.  Unless there is a sudden surge in demand for 40d E70s that the market can't meet then those prices need to come down to below £30k.

That supplier is trying to get top book and unless there is something really special about them, they just aren't worth that much.  More so given so much of each spec is standard, not an option.  If they had Comfort seats, Nappa/Exclusive/individual leather etc then maybe, but not otherwise as they only have Dakota leather.

As 535dboy says, neither are £70k otr as built spec.

Thanks for the compliments regarding the 3er :)

wow, bit surprised about the comments regarding the price. Was expecting someone to say they were high however Im not sure how high  :(

Found another one (no pics yet) with similar mileage / specs however 1k over:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/b ... ars-twt001

Anyone would risk a quote on these, how much would they be worth by your estimates? How should I approach negotiation if price seems bit eye watering ?

Hopefully some more experts can chimei in

Thanks for the feedback so far

Dealers probably think that because winter is here/coming, they can charge a premium for a 4x4 !!!

I agree at low £30s

Some of those options (HUD/rear DVDs ) etc are expensive options at new but not worth it at second hand so nice to have but not adding value

Thanks for the feedback more is welcome!

Just called the Sales Rep from the last dealer I posted and got a quick response "6 people are waiting to see it, please confirm if you want, blah blah " he also emailed me pics of it (quite dirty still) and getting it prepped for dealer pictures . He said that if I was interested to place a deposit on it so that it would go off market and if I came to see the car and didn't like it, would return deposit.

Don't be bullied by the dealer!!

I've just seen a car I want to add to the fleet (see other thread) and I've told him I'm not paying asking price!!

He said he would be open to "sensible negotiation"

I will read it now :)

Did you come personally to see the car before giving the " I'm not paying asking price" answer ?

Perhaps I should follow your tactics haha

Oh it's not that interesting don't rush!!!

I haven't had the opportunity to negotiate on cars for a long time because I buy new and cars that haven't even been released when I order or in demand cars

I got £750 off the porsche only because I told him that I didn't want to pay £1,500 for special electric seats when all the Mrs wanted was the dipping mirror when reversing option which you could only get with those seats!

Lucky you :) Wish I didn't have to go through this! Seems the worst part of buying a car is actually the negotiation! Last time I bought (the 3 series) I had 2 friends coming over to negotiate. Guy though I had bodyguards  :)) In the end managed to get 800 quid off the price, seller even showed me receipts where he purchased the car from (auction), 400 quid was his profit. Friends negotiated the whole deal, but then again it was not 30k car

So I would say at this moment I should try to haggle down to 30k, more help is appreciated guys!

Would you guys not trust such a dealer? If can haggle down the price, wouldn't that be ideal?

From what I have read, lots of people have issues with AUC when it comes to claiming anything under warranty
