Anyone else found the snow handling abysmal on the standard tyres ?  Just had to stump up nearly £2k on a set of winter tyres and wheels !

Yes, and there is a massive thread all about it on here too.

It's all in this thread.  Prices always rise at this time of year because the stocks are lower with many owners having switched over in November.  My  Pirellis were £1200.

So what are all the other F15 owners running on, or maybe in, to ensure their new pride and joys stays on the road this winter ?

I got caught out 3 weeks ago with the horse trailer but the car on normal tyres had no issues.  7pm we came out the riding school and it started a blizzard, by 7.30 once the horse was loaded there was a good 3 inches.  We drove through the blizzard on untreated A and B roads slushy treated motorway and only had an issue as the car slewed past the entrance to the farm and then only as I didn't judge it right.  Came back around and it is a tight uphill right turn in and we got in no problem.
There was a good 6 inches and it is all uphill/ tight turns in the yard and at one which is a tight uphill U turn, the car had to be worked (in manual) but done it.
Trailer unhitched and 7 miles home (in auto) on untreated B roads including a very steep hill where we had a bit of spin but the 4 wheel drive could be felt pulling from the front.
My car has 20 inch wheels 5.5mm tread.
I'm not saying I wasn't concerned - I was bricking it and thinking how embarrassing it would be if I had to get the horse to pull the car if we got stuck, but, I have driven BMW for 15 years and never been stuck in the snow and we get snow in the valley where I live every winter.
My local tyre specialist offered me non BMW alloys but look the same and winter tyres for £950 and there are similar deals online.  Next winter I might buy them.
