X5 3.0d 05....Insurance recommendations anyone?

Insurance time
3.0d 05 facelift, no points, accidents, over 10 years no claims,45 yrs old.
I brought the car 2 ish months ago and basically just paid the £24 extra on my old car insurance to get me through to renewal.
My insurance company has issued a renewal figure of £519 fully comp, not very impressed to be honest as it has a "Tracker" fitted that costs a £120 subscription per year also, pretty sure the guy who I got it off paid in the region of £200 full comp in similar circumstances.
Thanks for any info

Have you tried Elephant or Admiral? They are always cheapest for me.

but you dont get a toy from money supermarket
fyi x5s are very expensive to insure for most people of any age etc, e.g my rrs was half the price of my x5, even ,my ml63 is less than my x5, and my m3 was also less than my x5

One of the most stolen cars, hence the premium.
Although I used to pay less then £200 for my 05 E53, and pay £280 for my e70, similar age as you

Try all the comparison sites as the prices do vary!
Comparethemarket
Gocompare
moneysupermarket
I try these three every year & always find a cheaper quote than my renewal quote!

The E53 is very easy to lose abroad via shipping container, loads have gone to eastern europe and much further that way, which is why I cant figure why the Tracker (real one!!) is not making that much difference as it did 5 years ago......great value 4x4 now its old in some places where it doesn't matter about documents etc

A few years ago the trackers were mandatory or no insurance at all! These days unless you have one of the top flight ones then they make no difference as the crims know how to deal with them. Factory fitted ones always end up in the same place!! Easy to find, easy to disable.
With many cars now being stolen with the keys and therefore a delay before the theft is noticed and the tracker activated it can be too late. As a result insurers are generally less interested in them except above certain values, or in certain postcodes.
Decent ones now have to be at least Thatcham 6 or better still 7, and installed by a special team who don't tell anyone where it's hidden. They activate even if the car is stolen with the keys making it harder for the tea leaves to get any distance before blue lights appear!!
I think both of our insurers stopped being interested once the E53 hit about 5 years old. Before that it was mandatory.

may be I leave in a dodgy area
.
I am sure my last premium was close to £600 with Admiral. And that's with multi car discount

When I bought mine it had the Tracker fitted but when I looked into the difference it would make to my insurance premium I decided it wasn't worth the subscription, because savings were minimal. With insurance quotes it is always worth checking the difference the little things can make, finding insurers who have a list of standard modifications, trying different job descriptions for your occupation (whilst not telling untruths!), mileage limits and excesses, and making sure you're not paying for things you don't need, or could get cheaper separately (breakdown cover, key cover, legal cover etc).
I tend to change company every year, as the renewal quote always seems to go up, however, then it's worth getting other quotes and going back to your existing insurer and telling them you're planning to change, most of them have a customer retainment department, who will suddenly find ways of dropping your renewal quote!
My wife and I pay about £250 fully comp on the X5, not bad for V8 monster!

multi cars often work out more expensive, i know ,mine are cheaper on 4 separate policies
on the tracker front iv'e never needed one due to insurance and as for getting the car back, I don't care, I don't want my car back after some thieving scum's ragged the f%&$ out of it, bit like i leave my keys near front door (not close enough to fish) but i don't want potential thieves walking round the house when the families inside!
