Hi all. I'm Windy. I originally bought my X5 as a tow-car/runaround, but as always seem to happen, I've started meddling...

Anyway, these are a few of my previous motors...

Image

3.0 Z4. Twitchy.

Image

3.4 Cayman S. Loved it!

Image

E46 SMG M3. Discovered the joys of car control in this one...

Image

Then I moved to a city centre and sold up as I didn't really need a car. However I did buy myself a little toy...

3.0 E36 M3. Stripped, single bucket seat, harnessed, Bilstein coil-over suspension, big AP 4-pot brakes, stainless system, slicks, etc, etc. Bought to do lots of this:

However, as I've decided to make it even more track-focussed, and so horrid to drive on the roads, I needed something to tow it with, and this popped up for a decent price:

I wasn't keen on the tints or the wheels to be honest, but it was mint, with loads of receipts and a decent spec so I bought it. Then, just before Christmas and needing a pair of tyres, I decided to see if I could get a deal on something... and turned up with these for very little money:

I know they're drug-dealer spec (22") but they don't seem to have affected the ride too much, and although the plan was to buy them for the small price, clean them up, then sell them on, I do seem to be warming to them...

Hi Windy,

Nice! I love the Cayman! Wow!

And as for the X - keep the alloys, they look great! What else you got planned for it!?!

Yeah, I loved it too, but a few fiddles by my Porsche dealer resulted in me eventually returning it, then I test-drove the E46 M3 while I was looking for another one and bought that instead. Worked out ok in the end as I gave £40k for the Cayman, and they were shifting for mid-£20k about 18 months later :o

Nothing too much with the X5 really:

—clean the pitted steps
—add bluetooth (either OEM or Parrot)
—retrofit RPA (once g60renshaw tells me how :D )
—tow with it

Don't think there's too much I could do really? I had considered lowering it as it looks much better on the same wheels in this pic:

compared to the huge gap I have on mine:

But I'd be worried it may ride terrible, plus I have self-levelling on the rear which I guess could be a nightmare to fiddle with?

Oh, is there anyway to remove the amber from the headlights?

Not looked at Cayman prices for a while but they were seriously good used vfm a while back. I must try to get a go in one sometime.

Hey AW8 — yeah, I'm floating between the 2 forums to see which is best  I nearly bought another Cayman a few months back (instead of the E36 & X5) as they are lovely cars, but this way I get the best of both worlds!

535dboy — yup, still got the E36. I'm currently stripping more bits from it, and tweaking others... I seem to be building up a decent collection of tyres at the mo:

As for where I take it... Oulton Park in Cheshire. It's only 30 mins away. Plus I got loads of track day vouchers from the family over Christmas

Even in the wet, though I did spin at about 90mph on this day and come to rest just short of the Armco

Just nipped outside to grab something from the car, and the bloke from the office downstairs has parked in front of mine. In his E70.

My wheels are bigger though :poke:
