4.8is - does anyone know what this is for?

Hi guys i noticed the following pipe/hose being loose on the car (in front of cyl. Bank

4-8) ever since i bought it... Any hints what is it used for and whether it has to be linked to anything? Cheers

I suppose it should remain loose and not linked/connected to anything? cheers
