Heard a rumour that the changes to the paddle shift operation on the X6 may be to appear shortly as it has on the new X3 and another couple of models. Left paddle will be Shift+ and Right paddle Shift-, rather than the current either doing both which does seem a strange way of doing it and means I leave them alone most of the time. I have tried to get into tge habit of only pulling on left and pushing on right, but it isn't in muscle memory quite yet.

But here's a thought, can you change the paddle operation with a scanner, or can the dealer do it for you? Anyone know?

Never understood why BMW did that while every other manufacturer with paddles did one for down and one for up as you should

I've never driven a flappy paddle but don't you mean left paddle shifts down and right paddle shifts up? That seems more natural to me....

Or is this purely for lhd models and as above for rhd cars?

That would be my guess too

I have no preference it was just an option. I've not driven a vehicle with paddles before either so I don't know what he convention is. Being left-handed may have made it how I do things rather than coventional....

Very true, if you're left-handed that's how you might wish to have it! Must be possible to change the settings in the iDrive (perhaps).

Either way - not something I'd have for a long time yet!

I actually like it how it is. You can use either thumb to shift down and shift up with either fingers.

I'll get used to it in time and like others find a method that works for me too, just offered for interest more than anything. Just seems such an odd thing for BMW to have done considering what has been tried by others before and that there does (to me) seem to be a convention. But then again, it could just be BMW being different......

I've been without mine for too long whilst it gets a new bumper..............you may be able to tell.
