Footnote:Must remember it runs out 01/12/2015 in other words it had run out 1st September and I'd forgot all about it SWMBO wasn't impressed, the only reason I found it wasn't motd was I was getting a figure for px and the dealer told me it wasn't tested

Well done on that....
The big question is..
Has anyone actually MOT'd their car in time????
I know many that haven't managed it, myself included, but only missed it by 4 days when i realised

I don't get it. I have never missed/forgotten/been late with an MOT in the nearly forty years I have been driving. Don't you folks keep track of that sort of thing?
Given the consequences of a collision (even if you were not at fault) under those circumstances, your insurer could choose to walk away and you may well face prosecution with a fine of up to £1k.
Maybe it's just me but I know my MOT, VED, Insurance AND Licence expiry dates.

When I was in business my cars were changed before MOT was due so never a problem. My wifes car is another issue forgot that several times over the years. The last 4 years the BMW specialist I found sends a timely reminder for annual service/MOT, good for his business and avoids a headache for me. He now gets her Outback to service as well.
Makes me think why more garages dont do it?

The current BMWs now have it on the iDrive too. My local BMW Dealer does issue reminders via email - but of course they need your email address.
