error codes P2187&P2189 on 4.8is

afternoon,

I replaced/removed the OEM filter+housing over the weekend  and installed P'cross filter - relatively straight fwd job. However following a change I noticed that car is a tad hesitant on lower revs which does happen on kick down too, e.g. for those that have driven a diesel it's almost as phenomenon called turbo lag.

I have tested it on several short journeys... interesting feedback + noise but not much gain tbh on 355bhp monster. originally I was after improved feedback at lower revs but was presented with a lag and couple error codes backed up by check engine :(. I haven't had time last night to put back original filter but was wondering if by altering the airflow can engine's ECU adjust automatically over a time or simply one needs to code ECU as a result of a change?

Also any hints as to what could have caused P2187+9 error... and what would be a typical culprit/where to start troubleshooting from?

Much appreciated...

Errors are for intake or vacuum leak. Check all pipes + pcv ventylation. As for Pcross filter,  get it removed if you dont want to damage the engine.

Im not a fan of aftermarket filters. What benefit were you hoping for from it?

It's dificult to know how so called performance mods will affect stock cars, BMW as well as other manufacturers spend lots of money developing well  tuned engine control systems. Altering them can sometimes cause negative effects. I had my backboxes removed so that the exhaust pipes would exit through the rear vallance. This ruined the low down torque , so I had to put it back to stock, an expensive mistake to make.
I'm no modern mechanic but altering the intake could have confused the MAF sensor, so confusing the engine management system to how much air is entering the engine. As stated this is just an idea and not in anyway meant as a real diagnosis  :)

Why not just stick stock filters back on and get it remapped via Jason at B&W? requesting better low end drivability.  I know its not a diesel but he may be able to improve things, far more than a filter would I'm sure

it's an option... however going into it's 10th anniversary with over 100k I'm not sure that would be a wise move knowing how prone to failure ZF's are at this sort of mileage.
