Radio aerial.

There is a small box unit under each element (I think they are supposed to boost the signal- not sure) and these feed back into the loom and into the radio head unit and amp in the trunk - though you can't see much of these  without removing trim.

I am sure others will be able to give a more specific description.

The rear side windows are heated and if your windows have a aftermarket tint on them you can see the heating elements more clearly.

As AW8 says, they are radio/TV aerial, not heaters.

Fairly sure that's not the case. Its a signal booster as I recall

Care to post a snapshot of your manual showing this.....?

Think about it - why would the rear quarter light be heated ......?

As the lines on the side windows look similar to the elements on the rear window it's easy to think that they are heated and as the salesman at the garage told me they were I didn't really Question it , and yes its fair to say why would they be heated , no point really,  I never even thought it would be the signal booster for the radio .

Life's all about learning lol and I've found something new about my x5 again .

No problem - we're all hear to learn and bust the myths on the way. I get your point that they do look similar but as I say I see no real advantage to heat that part - they're not really that easy to see out of !

Maybe BMW are missing a trick with an optional extra .......  :)

Let's hope the salesman didnt tell you any other porkies ....... ::)
