My 4.8 has recovered fully from the ailment which landed her in intensive care.......and is back home where she belongs, having sniggered at a few lesser vehicles as she whooshed her way home again  :driving: :driving: I'm am sooo pleased to have her back..... :D The loaner was a very new Vauxhall Insignia: engine was ok and quite nippy, six speed manual gearbox was quite slick, but the interior is relatively dire and well, Vauxhall-y. The windows are like slits they are so small - the rear window allows almost no rear view vision and the rear pillars obscure it even further, seats not particularly adjustable (only partly electric) and not very comfortable. It was quite boring and I couldn't imagine ever wanting one, though.......plasticky interior, not enough toys, (although satnav was quite simple to use, its screens visibility to the driver wasn't great), cloth seats (yuk), steering wheel did have the radio / bluetooth controls though, and cruise control. For the price, though, (around £25K, with appalling depreciation!) I would think a 1 or 3 series BMW would be so much nicer to own and drive........no contest, in fact, particularly with such good Emergency backup and warranty!!!! I took a misty photo of the Insignia which I'll get off my phone and post up.

I got the dealer to print out the costs of the parts etc as billed to the Warranty division.......the oil cooler itself is £659.58 plus VAT :o plus all that nice new LL04 oil and the labour.......(front bumper had to be removed etc etc) was another £300 or so. As they bill the warranty division internally, they invoice the parts out at cost and labour is nominal, (much lower rate than normal hourly rates we would pay) and there is no VAT, but still, it was a total of around £1000 :o :o If it had been a private repair it would have been around £1800.

Luckily, though the AUC warranty came up for it  and the BMW Emergency Service / Mondial was superb again. It would be nice not to have to use them at all, though........

Glad its back condor & you are happy again.

Good job you had your warranty,i decided to get a years warranty from bmw when i bought mine.

At least driving a vauxhall helps you appreciate what you have with your nice motors.

Although the fuel costs must have been more bearable!!

Glad to hear it went well and you've certainly had value from the warranty!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed with no warranty although will have £1.5k in the notional sinking fund by May 2011.

Hi Condor

I'm so glad your baby is back home. It makes me shudder as I'm without AUC now for 7 months :-(

Well done and a Happy New Year!

Congrats on getting her back. It's always nice when the warranty covers it all and you can just grab the keys and run.....lol

Best New Year's present, I bet!

Think it deserves a wash - by hand, by the owner! Some TLC time, me thinks...

Enjoy 2011!

Actually, they did wash the X before handing it over, the main dealers seem to do that :) Not brilliantly, but it does get rid of some of the salty stuff :)

Bought a 5 litre can of Wonder Wheel today and some fine steel wool.......will start on running boards tomorrow.........

5 litres? Never seen it that big before !!

Did the full works on the X yesterday with snow foam and all, need to do a few spots on the running boards but will use autosol for that.

Pleased you're reunited with the car. Their service sounds brilliant. Which dealer was this again?

The dealer who did the oil cooler replacement was Stratstone Derby - BMW Emergency arranged a diagnostic visit from a technician first, then the recovery low loader, who took it directly to the closest dealer - Stratstone Derby. I didn't go with the car, dealer called within an hour to say it had arrived etc. Avis delivered a hire car which was free except for fuel, for 48 hours - apparently the dealer gets to pay for it beyond 48 hours or give you their own loaner, so your car gets priority in the workshop.....if the part is unavailable in the UK, BMW UK pay the ongoing cost of the hire car. Cost to me was £12 diesel for the hire car, no cost for repairs due to warranty. Stratstone were very efficient, no complaints about them this occasion
