Home at last!

My 4.8 has recovered fully from the ailment which landed her in intensive care.......and is back home where she belongs, having sniggered at a few lesser vehicles as she whooshed her way home again I'm am sooo pleased to have her back..... The loaner was a very new Vauxhall Insignia: engine was ok and quite nippy, six speed manual gearbox was quite slick, but the interior is relatively dire and well, Vauxhall-y. The windows are like slits they are so small - the rear window allows almost no rear view vision and the rear pillars obscure it even further, seats not particularly adjustable (only partly electric) and not very comfortable. It was quite boring and I couldn't imagine ever wanting one, though.......plasticky interior, not enough toys, (although satnav was quite simple to use, its screens visibility to the driver wasn't great), cloth seats (yuk), steering wheel did have the radio / bluetooth controls though, and cruise control. For the price, though, (around £25K, with appalling depreciation!) I would think a 1 or 3 series BMW would be so much nicer to own and drive........no contest, in fact, particularly with such good Emergency backup and warranty!!!! I took a misty photo of the Insignia which I'll get off my phone and post up.
I got the dealer to print out the costs of the parts etc as billed to the Warranty division.......the oil cooler itself is £659.58 plus VAT plus all that nice new LL04 oil and the labour.......(front bumper had to be removed etc etc) was another £300 or so. As they bill the warranty division internally, they invoice the parts out at cost and labour is nominal, (much lower rate than normal hourly rates we would pay) and there is no VAT, but still, it was a total of around £1000 If it had been a private repair it would have been around £1800.
Luckily, though the AUC warranty came up for it and the BMW Emergency Service / Mondial was superb again. It would be nice not to have to use them at all, though........
