Morning all,
My facelift e53 has standard 19s (132 I beleive) which are staggered.
I particularly like the rears as they are concave, and was wondering if I could fit a set of rears on the front so basically running 10" all round.
Can this been done, has it been done before and if so any pics?
Thanks

Style 132 10" up front?
Re: Style 132 10" up front?
I fancied doing that when I had mine, I read several posts from members that had done this mod, only to be put off by the reports of severe tram lining and dodgy handling, try a search on the forum to see if you can locate anymore info from old posts

Re: Style 132 10" up front?
Good evening gents,
Re fitting a rear set of rims with 285's on all 4 corners is a resounding YES.
See the post called - Mudflaps, on page 3 there is a picky of my Black Facelift X5 with this mod done.
The tyres & wheels fit perfectly, no contact with the arches or inner arches what so ever.
I fitted a medium quality set of 4 tyres "Roadstone" 285 x 35 x 19" all round.... and if any thing this wheel / tyre combination has LESS tramlining effect / if any than the Michelins on the narrow front rims before.
I know a friend at Kwack-Fit and got all 4 tyres on the car for £400 fitted.... wow, impressed.
The dry handling is absolutely fab, the wet handling is actually better then the 255 tyres on original rims.
I think I'm getting these good results because these tyres have 3 HUGE water vent grooves in them and good outer dispersal. These tyres are HIGH SPEED rated also.
The steering improved, as previously in wet or dry, there was a tendency to Under-Steer in extreme use, and the outer edges of the 255 narrow tyres easily got chewed.
The bigger rims with 285 tyres don't show any signs of outer tread wear at all, and the steering is far nicer & predictable now.
I have driven these vehicles with 20" & 22" rims with low profile tyres..... not impressed at all...
Personally, I'd stick with the OEM rear rims all round, as they are very strong & I've never seen a broken one.
There it is for my 3 penneth worth.
Please mail me privately for pictures to upload on this post if you want.
Regards

hi you could try to fit a set of 232 rear wheels , X6 wheels as they are dished on the rear aswell & have the 255/50/19 tyres all round offset is et18 for the rear so should fill the arches out , my mate bought a BMW X5 with the front wheels on the back & the rear wheels on the front said he couldnt really notice a difference ! it was only when I pointed it out to him that he noticed .
Although I may check with the insurance first as they look for changes in the spec once you have had an accident !

As above, it will work but some insurers may not like it as the size is not as approved by BMW. Others won't care two hoots - as long as you tell them. It does count as a 'mod' to change rims or use non-standard tyre sizes.

Re insurance,
I wondered this, but was told that because the wheels are original fitments there is no issue...
However other insurers may have different opinions...
