I'm looking at upgrading the brakes on my 3.0d x5 and just interested in what people have gone for. I'm looking to upgrade disks and pads without the need for brembos.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Raj, If funds (the wife) would allow I would. Would look really good with the 20s.
Just out of interest how much??
Thanks

For my 3 penneth worth..
I bought a 4 wheel set of EBC Vented, Drilled, Slotted hardened disks off Flea-Bay for £200, and a set of Red Stuff Front & Rear pads at about £70 a set, + standard handbrake shoes too, and have got the best brake set up I've ever owned.
The Red-Stuff pads squealed like a bitch for 500 miles, then bedded in...
And the added advantage that these pads improve with heat, so when you're roaring up to a junction at 90mph and hit the anchors..... there is ZERO brake fade, and they pull up right down to stationary.
Very impressed, and not expensive either... and took just 1hr & 30 minutes to fit the whole lot.
However, every one has their own choices, and some people just don't like the Red/Green Stuff pads...
Personally, My truck stops reliably and I'm delighted with the results.

Hi Raj,
Yeah my wife would probably kick my ass buying them, but maybe some day I'll pluck up the courage to stand up to her and buy a set.
X5 sounds like a good set up. The garage I bought the car from changed the front pads for the mot but I think one of the disks is worn as I get a slight shudder under braking and fade and there is a horrible squeaking from the brakes that I ant to get rid off at the same time.
I'll look into the set up you mentioned.
Thanks
Doug

Mtec discs(drilled only) +Trw pads. As for ebc+redstuff, great but very noisy under hard braking. I got rid of it.

Hi Doug...
A way to a Mans Heart is via the toys he loves - ie... Your X5.
You want nice brakes on your motor ??, you go get them !... Ignore the Nagging !
Us guys have very little these days, and after all our work, we are a long time dead & always lose to women...
So Doug, You Go get your toys to bolt to your fab X5....
You may not get another chance..... Not that I'm bitter or anything ....... lol ha ha
Life is good now... Single, Fab cars, free as a bird, and more bits for the car arriving tomorrow.

Not bitter no haha.
The wife drives the X5 more than me when I'm away for work and she would be just as happy as me to see brembos on it just they are out of my budget. Unless Raj does 0% finance haha.
How much brake dust do you get from the red stuff pads? I'm constantly cleaning the wheels because the standard ones are crap.

Noope, not bitter - not even a little bit - lol....
Minimal dust with the Red Stuff pads, but also bear in mind that the slotted / drilled disks will make a tad more dust than smooth disks..
I'm pleased with the results on mine, as I was sick of the dust, which is significantly less now.

I've Mtec drilled and grooved on my Audi and have replaced the Mintex pads with Redstuff, wouldn't say they stop any better than the Mintex but the Redstuff definitely dust less. I'll certainly be doing the X5 when they are changed soon.
