OBC pin code

Post by ChewingBacca » Thu Dec 30, 2010 2:34 pm

Assuming you guys have this option on the OBC.

1. Do any of you use this?

2. How effective do you think it is?

3. As a deterrent shouldn't there be a label on the drivers side window?

1. Yes, I use it whenever I remember.

2. Surely better than nothing.

3. I think there should.

It's displayed on the OBC menu on my E53 2004.

ah ok, yes I think I have that. I'm guessing (for security purposes) it isn't that easy to find out what the code is if you dont know it ?!

Guessing a 4 digit combination would be 10,000 to 1.

I use the code function every time I park up. It's become second nature to do it now.

yes I understand the odds of guessing - which I think would actually be 9999 to 1 ;)

But my question is - can someone with an obd port scanner tell me what it is if I don't know it ? For example, how would a stealership be able to start a recovered car if the driver wasn't there to give them the code?

LOL, I was wondering where this was going.

The code is whatever you want it to be. Read the page from the manual in my opening post again.

I think the code won't be set if the car starts ok. Then you have the chance to change it when you have the key at position one. (... but my memory is fading abit now!)
