Scanner 1.4.0 manual or error codes explanation

Why can I not find any site, or list, or manual that tells me what the error codes mean that this scanner throws up ?

I have got my alarm to 'chirp'  :P
I have got my doors to lock automatically on driving away, though they wont re-open

But I am getting nowhere reading the error codes. What do others do with their error codes?

I cant believe that all the people that have this scanner purely use it to cancel errors, and/or uncheck functions so that the errors do not re-appear. Surely not everyone has bought one just to 'hide' issues with their car, what is the point of that, unless you are selling it and want to pretend you have a decent car  >:D

I bought mine to ensure that she runs the best and at her most optimum, so when I get errors I WANT to understand them and get them sorted.

Where can I get this fabled list from ??

The E53 can't be programmed to unlock to when turning engine off etc. So mine does as yours and locks when driving off but does not unlock.

As for errors, I google the error code and see what I can find buddy.

I don't just clear them to hide the fault.

the doors don't unlock as part of the programme - you either open via the handle or press the central lock/unlock button and then open them

No we dont hide the errors for the same of it, but sometimes they are old errors that just need cleared out, so you clear them, then run the car a day or two then rescan, then you know what you've really got

What errors are you seeing?

I have noticed having looked at the ebay listings for this scanner that there is an  Odometer "WRITE" function, does this really allow you to re-write the odometer reading i.e. change the mileage displayed????
If so Im really glad I brought one with a full history !

Scanner looks to have that function but it doesn't work. Dealer software does allow this function.

As stated "I cant believe that all the people that have this scanner purely use it to cancel errors, and/or uncheck functions so that the errors do not re-appear. Surely not everyone has bought one just to 'hide' issues with their car, what is the point of that, unless you are selling it and want to pretend you have a decent car"

So I am NOT accusing any/all of the forum members of doing this, I just cant believe there is no full and definitive list out there that we can easily assess what the car is telling us.

I plugged it in last week, and on advice, reset errors that I could, and I 'intend' to plug it in again tomorrow and see what error codes have resurfaced.

I will post when I get the answers. I thought a definitive list would help as I would not have to keep bothering the forum with all the different codes  O:-)

I have never managed to find a list on line.  It's most likely buried inside the 'official' versions that cost £000s or BMW have sent their legal threat team to force any such list to be taken down again.

There was a complete copy of the BMW TIS on line until a year ago, then the site owner got 'leaned' on, and it's gone.

You can of course still buy one on line but it's not the most current one and for example does not have the E70/71 in it anywhere.

Annoying, but BMW seem to be doing everything it can to protect its Dealers etc unless you pay.

Ok, I have re-read my errors so I hope you are ready for this....  :'(

Firstly my coder does not read everything, apparently it needs soldering ?? as it does not find the engine, oops, also things like Cruise Control, Zenon lights, Sunroof all of which I have but it finds 'No Data'

Secondly, I have been a bit of a chav this morning  :P I have zenons so I updated the side lights (the ones nearest the grill) with imitation zenon bulbs so they did not look 'yellow' in comparison, that's not the chavvy bit, I have now just set it so the relevant side light flashes with the indicator when turning...... It does not work when the lights are ON so it should not confuse people at night, but it does look good, ha ha, some may well disagree, some will think it looks like the car is short circuiting when it comes towards them, some may think its illegal but if it is why do so many cars relevant fog lights come on when they indicate..

Anyway, down to the ball ache of not knowing what the error messages mean:

Area LEW Steering Angle Sensor, error code 10[016] Watchdog

Area A/C Heated and Automatic conditioner Control, error code 1E[030] Auxiliary water Pump

Area SRS Supplemental restraint system, error code 50[080] Power Supply Undervoltage - Watchdog

Area IKE Instrument Cluster electronics, error codes:
BF[191] Internal fault EEPROM checksum coding incorrect incomplete
BD[189] Electronic braking-force distribution

Area LCM Light Check Module (these errors are all yellow - not current) error codes:
28[040] Thermal Oil-level sensor defect
57[087] level control system
8C[140] Rear left side light
8D[141] Rear right side light
94[148] Rear left fog light
95[149] Rear right fog light

Area ZKE Central Body electric, error code 96[150] Interior Security rear : fuse or cable

Area RAD Radio, error code (yellow) 02[002] Error power supply for antenna

Area RDC Tyre Pressure Check, error codes 3D[061] Transmission channel out of order, position unknown (to be honest, like most, I don't think the sensors have been replaced in the tyres over the years)

There you go, aren't you glad that there isn't a definitive list of errors  :))

nice list there  :)
did you clear the codes after you ran the scan? as you say some are yellow , its the ones in red I think that are current .......
rescan and then clear the codes, and re post the ones that are still there.. :)
oil level sensor defect , is the oil sensor in the sump (well it was in mine),  check your oil level  firstwhich is a pita the replace as you have to remove the metal plate under the car ( well I did any whoo) and that's connected to the sway bar thingy :( and I get the brake force one aswell, cant figure that one out .
you could post up the end scan  on here or attach the text file?

Front fog lights don't flash with the indicators and they're called corner assist lights - or whatever each OEM chooses to call them.  Mine only come on with the lights on, when the steering wheel is moved beyond a certain amount and only below around 20mph

FYI:  Current MOT Section 1.4.f requires ALL indicator lamps to emit Amber light.  From what you describe, you now have a failure on your hands as your sidelights are 'coupled' to the indicator circuit for that side and aren't Amber.

Richard, must remember to reset before MOT  :-[ I will probably remove this, I was just mooching through the options and thought I would try it

Be nice if you could just do it simply though...... :)
