I've just bought a standard 2/h BM54 to send away and have upgraded.
Seen lotsa reviews on M3Cutters and they all rave about Baris.

I had mine upgraded a while ago as well. A shame i did not know my previous one could be fixed before I ended up buying a new unit from BMW
My only issue is that the newly added Bluetooth to the BM54 for streaming does not always connect.
However I found that threading the cable to be visible the sitting cabin or switching off the stock Bluetooth helps.

correct me if i'm wrong but AUX is enabled but hidden and as soon as you connect some form of cable/lead (e.g. iPhone/iPad adapter for instance) it is shown in the sat/nav, right?

+1 for Baris. Best £99 spent on my BM54, the audio is way better (and all speakers work!)
Regarding aux: the menu option appears when the physical cable is connected to the audio. The physical cable has a resistor (300kohm if I recall correctly) which is between two of the wires: when the audio unit 'sees' this resistance it enables "Aux" as a menu option.
For my E53 I bought the cable from BMW, as it was under warranty at the time. For my M3 I went to Maplin for the bits and made it for about £5, dead easy to install.
Top tip for the nav unit with Aux newly installed: the volume is extremely low. Use buttons 1-6 to change this

I've got an AUX cable I bought on another forum, and it's always worked well, EXCEPT that the volume output
is far less than the other sources Radio/CD/Tape (yes I still use it!!)
Are you saying that you can adjust the output volume on AUX by pushing buttons 1-6 (the ones that change the CD's in the charger and radio stations etc) ??
Is 1 the lowest and 6 the highest volume setting in this case ??
Cheers

[/quote] Nothing as far as I know. The MID units don't even have the separate BM54 module in the boot-its all self contained in the Head unit in the dash

ChrisLux - sorry for the late reply but 'yes' to your question. With Aux enabled use buttons 1 through 6 to vary the volume.
I think 1, lowest, is enabled by default

sorry for maybe bombing the post??
I am finding the stereo a tad crap to be honest considering the car was supposed to be top of the class at the time, I think the actual head unit may be ok if the speakers are upgraded etc?
I'm looking at replacing all the speakers in the car and adding a subwoofer somewhere out of sight (not a massive box in boot type!)
Q's are.........does sending the original head unit away for upgrade (what does it do??) make loads of difference and if it does and I did then what speaker choice have those that have done this suggest I go for??
I have a budget of maybe up to £600 no more.
thanks for any input on this
