My bootlid started to play up yesterday.

Hi, when the wife got home yesterday and we opened the top part of the tailgate the lower catch that is motorised in the bottom part of the tailgate moved in and out about 3 times then stopped.
When you then shut the top part of the tailgate it sometimes locks ok but usually you get this cycling of the lower catch again and it normally stops in the out position so there is a gap and the tailgate isn't pulled in fully.
Any advice on how to fix will be greatly appreciated.
