Does anybody have a new Andrive AN3 E53 unit?
If so can you post some pics, I would like to get one of these as an early xmas present :xmastongue:
They are supposed to be curved to match the E53 facsia.

it looks good.
What functions are lost when using this instead of the original NAV unit?
Is it a straight forward install?

You lose the computer functions - the changing of time, mpg reset, etc.
Install is relatively easy - for a novice. So if competent - breeze.

dobbor1 has replaced his previous unit (which is currently for sale) for this one and states this one is much improved. I can't comment as I've not got either, hopefully dobbor1 may be able to comment.
Best products for the X5 - I'd wait a little while longer (thanks to Jeegnesh) the CarPlay stuff is soon to be released and may interest you. Failing that, I've always leaned towards the double DIN units.

Phil @ Andrive has made a couple of films showing these units installed and their functionality. Their web site is currently being updated I think as this MK3 unit has only just been launched. This is how it was first advertised on the BMW 5 Series forum....
Pure Android 4.2.2 Jellybean
1024x600 5 Point multitouch capacitive screen
1.86Ghz Dual Core A9 Cortex CPU
1GB DDR RAM
8 GB On Board ROM
2 x SD Card slots
INSTANT BOOT UP
(10-20 seconds if the car has been left overnight)
No Outdated WinCE System AT ALL
Android runs ALL functions, meaning the
whole system is updatable and incredibly fast
ALL New design with Flatter E39 OEM look in mind. (we also supply a more curved unit designed for E53, the AN53-3). We are the first company to offer individual models for Both E39 and X5
The Andrive 3 is 3 x times as fast as the Gen 2 Andrive in real world usage and is a dream to use.
1 unified Android system which controls all functions and is canbus enabled for BMW steering wheel controls.
Will play any audio or video files you throw at it.
Full system is upgradeable by SD card periodically.
We have discontinued Digital TV within the unit to bring the price down and because of varying signal areas producing disappointing results.
After much testing we would recommend using TV catchup app for TV over 3G/4G
We will be offering a DTV add on for those who want it regardless.
Here are a couple of short films of the unit in action.

The MK2 Unit is still very good and is customisable as you would expect from an android device.
As Sanj says, I am selling my MK2 if anyone is interested.

Might also be worth having a look at the Dynavin N6.
I was choosing between the Dynavin and the Anvin.....which is the Andrive (for some reason, the company is calling it a different product in every country, undoubtedly to try set up geo-fences for pricing. Eg. the Dynavin in the states costs $1000 AUD, in Australia the same unit with a different brand name is $2000 AUD >:()
After some emails back and forth explaining my requirements and typical uses, the Dynavin was better suited to me (mainly because I run an iPhone).

The Andrive system works well with the iPhone as well. I have always had android phones until a month back and had no issues.

Thanks for the pics Dobbor1
I was sold until Dark stranger went and threw a spanner in the works. Thanks! Thanks a lot!
Dynavin looks slight more polished but also more restricted. I am still trying to find out how you put additional apps on it. I dont like the fact that they keep the specs hidden which means they cant compete but as they have controlled the UI it probably doesn't need so much grunt....however a 20 sec boot time is ridiculous in this day an age so I think they skimped on the processor.
I was sure I was going to get the Andrive but the fact that Dynavin can work with DSP straight out the box is a huge bonus. I do want to upgrade all the speaks and get rid of DSP but that can wait if I get the Dynavin...Arrrrrrrrggghh! More research!

I may go for this, one question
Can the ROM be updated to latest Android version ?
EDIT: I rang and spoke to Andrive, you cannot update the OS as its custom for the system. So you cant just download KitKat or Android L when it comes out.
Also if you have the Sat Nav/CD Changer in your X5 then you would need a 5ft Fakra lead to go from the head unit to the boot.
