Webasto

Post by cameronrobyn » Sat Oct 04, 2014 1:46 pm

Question:

I do not have the standard head unit therefore cannot program the webasto to come one at a given time.

So.....does the webasto heater come on at a given temperature automatically?

P.S.  Ive just managed to install the scanner onto my laptop windows 7.  Hard day at wotk getting overtime...Dont tell anyone!

The Webasco comes on automatically at below 5 degs C. You can set up a remote with bits from Maplins.
Loads and loads of posts on the Webasco. Do a search on the forum and there is hours of reading for you.
Mine never worked properly, couldn't be bothered getting it looked at, theres a few out there with faulty PCB's.

On Euro spec cars the Webasco is set up so you can activate the remote control to pre run the heater, or set the timer via the satnav screen. UK cars you can activate the timer option with BMW Scanner 1.4.0 via coding. The maplins remote allows you to turn the Webasco on via a separate fob, it is wired I to the Webasco trigger feed pin 1 I think, well documented on previos posts. You can turn it on 30 mins previos to getting in the car, so it's fully defrosted when you get in. The Webasco aids the engine warm up speed, and is fitted to all the E53 D's I think.
I'm sure someone with more info will be along shortly to put a link up that explains things better

Ps, yes it should come on automatically when you unlock the car at 5 degs or lower, if it's working ok.

I activated it yesterday via the scanner, so there is no point installing the bypass via the remote.  Main reason for that I'm up and out, shower, shave and gone, so not sure there will be enough time to have any effect.

Cheers for the replies.

This may not be relevant to those diesel owners who have programmed the Webasto to operate as a Parking Heater and been unable to use the screen as they have a mid display and no screen but there are UK spec vehicles with Webastos installed as Parking Heaters from the factory - I have a rare petrol unit, but there were some diesels as well. The timer runs from the display (auxiliary heating /ventilation) or directly from an expensive BMW fob..........

Apparently you can achieve similar results via the Maplins remote conversion.

Wouldn't be without mine in the winter!  The Petrol parking heaters do not come on automatically unless you set the timer on a daily basis, unlike the diesel ones which kick in when the temp drops below about 5.
