Audio help needed...

Post by mr gill » Sun Sep 28, 2014 1:47 pm

Good afternoon folks, I need a bit of help audio wise ....I had a look in my boot today (2001. 3.0) I see the battery is under the hydraulic? Pneumatic? suspension dome, it seems there is a hefty set of phono cables coming from the direction of the battery? There is also a blue wire going toward the battery (switch live?) I can also see a chunky power wire and huge inline fuse.  Am I to assume someone has previously fitted an aftermarket amp? I have the factory wide screen satnav. I am now wondering if I could drop in an active sub box? Does this all sound plausible or am I completely wrong??

For starters:

:worthless:

Then....

Yes it sounds like an after market unit has been fitted. That doesn't mean you can fit a sub now either. You need to check where these wires go first (not that simple).

you could use some RCA splitters if you only have 1 output

Unfortunately standard BMW electronics for these do not support RCA outputs..
You can get the BM54 unit modified to give them though..

You might have to use line level convertors to get the right levels, or feed from speaker lines into appropriate Amp inputs.
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

the op said he had phono cables already so presumed he meant RCA leads, they must go to an amp, possibly have preouts on that AMP you could use or you could could use Bavis to put some preouts on your bm54.. he has just done some for me.. great job too
