What DOES happen when you launch he app?

Is your BMW connected Drive account set up: do you know the Username  and Password?

Have you enabled Remote Services in your account?

Try logging in here:
https://www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk/cd ... cale=en_UK

with your user name and password. Once logged in there should be a link to "Activate Remote Services" on the right hand side of the page. Go in here to set up Remote Services.
Then download the app, log in and you should be good to go.

Was remote services an optional extra? If so is there anyway to get it "switched on" use one of these coding scanners? I can log in but can't see it so I assume I don't have it?

Cheers
Scott

Yes, thogh not one that the Dealer ever asked me about, they just added it in by default. When I queried what it was at the time they said "Oooh, you need that on a car like this" LOL

The reality was that they were ordering this car for me without a deposit, so possiblythey wanted it on in case I didnt buy it.

It was £230 inc VAT (list price)

ZNS ConnectedDrive Services package
6AN Information Plus
6AP Remote Services

Sorry, no idea how you might add it retrospectively.

Oh well, no great loss. Never needed to unlock the car, without the key yet (and I had this on my E70 too).

Never yet forgotten where I've parked either. I'd take that as a sign I shouldnt be driving...

The one useful thing is the Info Plus bit. It allows you (via the Idrive) to call out to what is described as a "concierge service" and ask for help with something. I've used it quite a few times to ask for directions to places, eg coming back from Bluewater one day I realised i needed something from B&Q, so I just asked them where the nearest B&Q was. They know where the car is and they looked up B&Q and then sent the directions to the Sat Nav, all while I was driving.

Both the Remote Services and the Info Plus use a SIM card that they've installed in the car, so on thinking about it I dont think you could activate it by coding alone.

There must be a sim in the car for the info and emergency call to work so might be able to sort it via coding you never know

Graeme,

I'm sure one of the early motoring magazine reviews (May have been Honest John) stated that it should be specified by buyers but also that it could be retrofitted. I just can't lay my hands on the review now though.

If you have the SIM and access to the online functions, I don't think there's anything needed hardware wise. Having said all that, as Kenniff says, most of the functionality is unlikely to be useful. I've used the google send to car, which was quite useful, and the remote ventilation - and then promptly forgot to go and check if it worked !

One other limitation is that the app is for iPhone only, so if you want to plan stop off points on your iPad and send them direct to the car, you can't.

I've never planned stop off points in my life, but I have installed the iphone app on my ipad and successfully sent directions to the car from it.

That's interesting. I use the same Apple ID for phone and iPad so any compatible apps install on both. Just done a search on the iPad for BMW and the connected drive stuff doesn't show up at all - well not in the first 20 apps or so.

There's an element of JLR about all this tech !!

You have to load the iPhone version onto your ipad.
