Scratch that, just found it (don't know how I missed it before), anyway just been out for a play...pretty cool!

Did you get the little chequered flag on the dash

Yes, got the flag. It took a couple of attempts as I don't think I was pressing the brake down hard enough...
I excitedly demonstrated it to the wife yesterday but she was a bit nonplussed :'(

Yeah, it fairly fires the car off at a rate of knots (obvious statement but I've never had it before)...probably not a good idea to use it too often though O:-)

Yes just save it for best wouldn't like to try it with my caravan on the back
What did you have before the x5

Audi Q7 immediately before then, Audi S4 before that. Nearly traded the X5 in for an RS6 a few weeks ago, but I'd have lost too much on the X5 as it's only 10 months old.

Looked at the Q7 but it was a bit dated inside and a bit noisier guess the RS 6 would be nice I thought the x5 would be ok as they are still in short supply and wouldn't have dropped to badly

Just think of a that extra wear and tear....
I did it on mrs old V6 TT a couple of times then a few loan cars but despite my current cars having it I haven't bothered because it only saves a nano second
I was speaking to the driving consultants at the Porsche experience centre at Silverstone and they say they have done thousands and never broken a car yet! Still not sure I would want to buy one as a second hand car though......

I think it says not repeat the launch back to back but if the toys are there you've got to use them that's my feeling

I had a play with launch control yesterday. Oh what fun! They say to do it in a straight line, which I did a couple of times, but I also tried it turning right out of a T junction. A bit of opposite lock, and it fired itself up the road.

Has it got a maximum number of uses limit? I can’t find it now, but I’m sure I read an article that says you can only use it so many times before your gearbox locks the function out due to excessive wear on the clutch & brake packs inside it - which would require a rebuild to sort.
I seem to remember it was less than 20 times?

I’ve not heard that. Tbh, although it’s fun, it’s not massively quicker than normal acceleration. I can’t see how it puts that much more strain on the clutch/ gearbox as it just seems to hold the brakes on, then accelerate slightly quicker than normal. If anything, it’s probably not very good for tyre wear!
