Perfectly good tyre but the outer shoulder on front near side has worn completely

Anyone else have this issue?

Would it be a MOT failure?

[/quote]Alignment could be out, we had the same issue with ours but we lost both front tyres through bad alignment.
The MOT spec is the middle 3/4 of the tread needs to be 1.6mm or above, the edges can actually be bald but you can't have and cords showing.

Characteristic of the car...........you wanted a good handling 4x4, there is your price !

The one to really look out for is the inner edge of the rear tyres

That isn't an MOT failure

As has been said above the geo seems to be out.
My guess is its got too much toe in on the fronts...
As the camber cant be adjusted.

The rears are a whole different thing, being adjustable for both camber and toe.....

Rears have been done recently accordingly to the seller
Happy with tyre wear at the back

But for the fronts should I go laser alignment at £30 if adjustments required

Or same place does hunter for £30 front and then £18 per adjustment at the rear?

Hi

That's normal. Mine went after 10K miles. Rears are fine. Ive had my car from  new , but went and had the tracking checked. It was within spec. Asked the guy to tweek it a bit see if the next set last longer. Seems to me the E70 doesn't eat rear tyres like the E53 did , but it does like a front one.
That tyre wont be an MOT failure unless the layer beneath starts to show.

Regards,
Nat.

Thanks for the response

Had a hunter alignment done
Its in tolerance which I was surprised as it pulls to the left

Needing the toe adjusted but wasn't possible with the part seized up so getting new tie rod assembly's fitted

QUESTION- I take it this is front tyres BUT my question can be front or rears, here goes.! If they wearing on outer edges like that, can you swap the tyres over ? obviously only on the same axle.! then you going to get better wear out of tyre ? Most tyres now directional but if you swapping on same axle is this ok ??

then the outside will become the inside on the other wheel and ditto ???

If you swap them 'on the same axle' then surely a directional tyre would be going backwards ?

yes, BUT as I tried to state, if you put what was the kurb side on the other wheel but don't put it on the kurb side, it will be going same way still ?or let me put it another way. On these tyres, is there only 1 side of the tyre (the tyre wall) that is to be a kurb side ? or look at it this way  O:-) if you stand at the back of the car and imagine by magic you could just slide the tyre across to the other side and vise versa   god now I'm getting confused lol

Bloody hell, you've confused me  :)) The only way would be to have the tyre re-fitted, not a great idea as the tyre will wear quick due to the direction of the wear 'peaks' being changed.
