Any good with wiring??? Need help please...

Hi,
I have taken delivery of my new headrests with monitors fitted. Im not sure how to wire it up. Here are some pictures of the wiring.
Does anyone have any idea. Is it as simple as joining up the same colour wires, but where does the rest go?
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
This cable comes through the headrest's pole from the monitor:
This picture shows both ends of the RCA Phono leads:
The phono leads will then attach to the DVD player.

Have you no wiring codes at all for these?
What do the connections on the monitors themselves look like or is it just a trailing lead that comes out of the case?
If you have any more images, or details of the actual units there may be some of us who can hlp. I was an electroncs technician for a while and still have my own video systems.
The RCA connections are straightforward with the centre conductors colour matching the other end. Red is Audio (Right), White is Audio (Left). and Yellow is Video by convention. The other multicore cable is alittle trickier as it may well contain 12v power, audio, and even some video switching.
See what you can tell us and we'll see what we can find or work out.
EDIT. It's just possible that the cabling is for a 9-pin type VGA connector rather than a more usual 15-pin. Where do these monitors get their power from? Is there another 12v supply cable used too? It could also be for a SCART type connection, or an S-Video link.....you see the problem. If you can get the make and model, we can help

Hi, thanks for your reply mate. I was told by the person I bought them off that red was live and black was earth. He said that the others were the phono leads, but he wasn't sure which went where. The make of the monitors are SAVV,I've looked on the net to see if I could get any info but can't find any wiring diagrams . They are quite a popular make. The cable goes straight into the back of the monitor.
Here is a link to the headrests:

Thanks for any advice,
Roy.

Been having a browse to see if I could find any installation instructions online. It seems they are manufactured/distributed by SAVV. Unfortunately both Google and my anti virus software block this site stating it's a high risk attack site.
Have you tried taking them into a local ICE installer, they would probably be able to tell you which wire is which.
Good luck.

okay, so if red is pos, black is earth, then guessing the other cable is switched live signal which when power is switched to brings monitors on possibly?? purely guessing here but pretty sure a friend of mine did something like this.

I've had a look at the SAVV website using an iPad (easier to rebuild if there are any nasties) and it is devoid of any usble information with regard to nstallation guides. Those sections are either 'n/a' for the product you have, or 'under construction'.
There do however seem to be a number of places to get this hardware from, so you may be able to get help from them. I take it you have the contol box that the monitors link into? Model number AVM-X5030F? It seems to be the hub into which everything connects to.

I have managed to wire it upto a12v transformer in the house, red is live and black is earth. The bare copper wires which are wrapped around some of the wires are also earth.
I have plugged the phono plugs into a playstation. I have then tried each wire connected to the yellow wire of the phono lead and i get a fuzzy picture when the blue wire is connected. This must be due to a bad connection with the earth.
Untili get the picture right i cant get any sound yet. I think the audios are the grey and orange as they are the same thickness wires as the blue and the rest are thinner.
I will let you know how i get on.
Many thanks for your replies!
Roy.

Thanks for your reply, but what do you mean by 'switched live'?
I have connected the live and also the earth to which i have included the bare copper wires,as i was told to do and the monitor comes on and displays SAVV, but theres a line continiously rolling from top to bottom and a humming noise . When i play with the earth it gets distorted.
Ihave hooked up a playstation to it via the phono lead and have attached the yellow video source to the blue wire of the monitor and you can see the display changing and sometimes see the playstation screen faintly, but i can not get it right! I have tried the other wires with the audio but cant get nothing!
i'm doing something wrong but what though?
Thanks,
Roy.

Not 100% sure but i think the copper wire wrapped cores will be screened ( the copper wire wrapping being the screen ) to stop any interference. These may be your audio/video wires.

Hi,
Does anybody know what i could replace the phono leads with? As i have found out that the earth wire(screened) in the phone cable are too thin and fragile and it stops the Video signal coming through. When i play with this wire the screen flutters and i can sometimes see the home screen on the playstation.
Is there any stronger cables with different fittings i could use?
Thanks,
Roy.

Hi Sanj,
I have looked at these but i think i would still have the same problem as the connection would still be flimsy as theres only about 3 very thin wires making it very difficult to attach to another.
I cant gaet any sound either as these wires are also flimsy and weak!
The wires from the monitor are ok and are thicker, I think i have worked out that the blue wire is video, and the orange and grey are the audio as these were shielded, but still wondering what the green, yellow, white are for.
I was wondering if i could connect these to another output source plug which plugs into a dvd player ect..
Thanks,
Roy

OK - kids gave me 5 minutes peace!
The audio is usually positive and negative though, so two wires...? Same with audio...
I used a portable DVD player with an AV IN/OUT connection. Allowed me to send and receive signals to get the wiring right. No danger of blowing anything either.
OK - back to opening pressies (where's mine)

You can get heavier cables from places like Maplin, it's only single core screened and you may even be able to get matching core colours if they have them in stock. It's a standard cable type. ICE places will also stock it I expect.
