30d or 40d

There seems to be not a lot of info out there thats helping me make a choice between a 30d & a 40d.  Having driven the previous model 40d and then a new 30d there wasn't (to me) much difference, although I'm told the new 30d & 40d are quite different.  I drove a 30d SE again the other day, I loved the noise, suprisingly sporty, and it went well, reminded me of a hot hatch.  I supposed what I'm asking is, is the 40d worth the extra money and will it limit the market on resale when I come to off load it in say 3-4 years time.  I'd got for a 50d if I had the money as I just know that much grunt would make me smile !

Any opinions on this gratefully received !

Thanks

The 40d has a much smoother power delivery in all gears and is pretty rapid.  It's the torque from the two turbos that makes it easier to drive.  Having driven the M50d I found it to be too 'brutal' with its power delivery.

If you are looking to the future, you may well find the 40d is in demand as the 'preferred' choice for those who know..... :)

Have to disagree with you somewhat Richard, don't find the 50d brutal. Admittedly it is a bit jerky (for the want of a better phrase) in sport mode, which I don't like and hardly every use. I also think it won't hold its value as well as the 40d, but it is great fun so trying not to think too much about that just now  O:-).

The chap who sits next to me at work has 2014 RS6, now that's brutal  :'( :)

It's all down to personal preferences.  The M50d is certainly an impressive machine, but I just found that the power delivery of the 40d suited the car better IMHO.  I wouldn't say no if I was given one as a company car though..... 8)

Perhaps I'm getting too old for these cars.... :)).  Yaris anyone?

Yeah you're spot on, for instance my missus still yearns for our old (lowest powered of the entire range) Q7.  :o

Anyway, you're never too old to enjoy motoring! That said, I'll probably be in a G-Wiz before I hit 40!

As Richard has said the power delivery certainly on the E7x range made the twin turbo worth it even if the performance was not your main criteria.

It's not much of an upgrade price is it? And yes you'll get a chunk of that back at the end anyway.
