Many thanks one and all
New Catalytic Converter ordered and paid for from Online Automotive
http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/
Due to be delivered Wednesday
Contacted previous company I ordered Alternator from in March, they advised they only give 30 days warranty even though car has only done 18 miles since then.
Not impressed, but hey ho.
Next to find a decent alternator supplier.
Tim

You still have rights under consumer law. They sold you a faulty part. Regardless of there own policy they still have to abide to consumer law.

Agreed 100%. Something has to be "fit for purpose" under consumer law regardless of their own policies.
I think I'd also be asking questions about the diagnosis of the other catalytic converter being faulty. It was diagnosed and replaced but didn't cure the problem. Therefore it was mis-diagnosis and you've paid for parts that weren't needed. This is especially underlined if it does indeed turn out to be the other catalytic converter at fault (which I still have my doubts about).

The alternator has to be as described, fit for purpose and of reasonable quality. This is dependent on price paid etc, so if I was you, I would demand a replacement.
Hope you can finally get to enjoy the car. iVe had mine for 3 weeks and 2200 miles and I love it.

A little bit of good news
The company who I bought alternator from said they are happy to refund based on the fact the car has only done 18 miles since purchased.
This was backed up by documents from BMW at both dates it was in.
So now need to take it off and source another one
At least will get credited back.

Makes me relieved that I bought an expensive AUC with 2 years BMW warranty!
Probably paid £2k more than I could have but any issues the car just gets sorted..and in 2 months I have had a new thermostat and fans and a replacement amp which combined would have been the best part of 2k at stealer prices!
Not meaning to gloat, just comparing our choices at purchase time.

That's good to hear Tim.
I know a lot more money but if you're planning on keeping the car then is it possibly worth buying a new one? See if dealer can do it at cost + 5% or something. It will have a 2 year warranty too.
